Some advice to accompish a mixed setup with the displayport 1.4 kvm, 2 monitors and mouse roaming (might be impossible)

KVM Model:

1.4 Display Port KVM Switch - Dual Monitor - Two Computer

USB Interface (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):

10-gigabit

Problem:

I have the following setup:

  • 2 monitors, one horizontal 1440p 144hz and one portrait, 60hz, over display port.
  • A desktop PC
  • Macbook M3Pro

Everything works, the KVM has no problems switching both displays.

However, I realized ideally I would do something slightly different - most of the time, I only need to switch my main display, and leave the portrait display connected to the desktop PC.

I was wondering if there was a way to setup display-edge switching in the following way:

  • If desktop is selected, both monitors show desktop. Nothing special
  • If the MacBook is selected, main monitor switches to MacBook, while second monitor is NOT connected through KVM, but remains directly connected to the desktop PC and shows desktop
  • When I roam my mouse from the main monitor (showing macos) to the edge, I want it to switch mouse/kbd over to the desktop computer so I can change something on the second display, WITHOUT changing the main display. Main display stays MacOS, but keyboard and mouse are now connected to the desktop, and I can do something on the secondary desktop display. Then I want to be able to roam them back to the main monitor and have them switch back to the macbook.

Would be interested in any pointers about this. Seems like it might not be possible with the KVM, and I might need to reach for some software on top, but that seems like it might create a bit of a mess.

Alternatives considered:

  • Get something like a Stream Deck and program what I need on it

Hmmm… noo I don’t think we support this. It sounds like a hybrid between KVM and KM, which he just don’t have unfortunately.

Yeah, thanks for answering.

I think I will go for a Stream Deck and program into it what I would have done on that second monitor. It’s mainly about selecting the next song, changing the volume, and stuff like that. Likely, other cheaper solutions would also work, but this gives me an excuse to play around with the Stream Deck
