(solved) windows 7 & 8 hang up on install on new system

Hi everybody, long time follower first time poster was hoping somebody on the forum could give me a hand.

So I decided to upgrade my mobo and do a clean install of windows. I get everything installing into my case as usual and all is good, it boots no problem everything is detected in bios.

My problem comes when I try and reinstall windows. Initially I was going to install windows 8 as I feel its about time to give it a go now with 8.1 out. So I put in the disk and start the install process. The issue come when I get to either the 'installing updates %' or 'getting finished' part of the process and it just hangs up indefinitely.

After trying to install it again and again for 2 days I gave up and thought 'oh well i'll just put 7 back on' and its having the same problem.

I've tried removing ram and unplugging all other hdd apart from my ssd (which is what im trying to install windows on) and using other sata ports.

Really stuck for ideas now guys, if anybody could help I'd really appreciate it.

here is the set up:-

i5 3570k - hyper212 evo

asrock fatality pro-m

msi gtx 680

16gb gskills ripjaw

ocz agility 3 120gb ssd (trying to use as boot drive)

1tb barracuda

some other 500gb hdd

corsair cx750m psu

Did you try the "custom" install option or the quick option.

Reason I asked is maybe trying the custom option could let you try wiping the drive. Maybe windows sees the old drive

actually, as I think about it that doesn't make much sense either. Idk? Worth a shot though.

Try to install on another drive, same thing happened to me when HDD decided to die (althought, it shouldn't happen on SSD in the same manner, but i don't know, SSD never died on me).

thanks for replying guys, sorry i've not posted a reply, i sorted the issue turns out i'd left my ethernet cable plugged in and during the 'installing updates' part it was just trying to connect to the web n was causing it to hang up, unplugged the ethernet tried again and hey presto.

thanks guys
