[solved] Realtek problem

I'm replacing my ASUS soundcard with an O2 ODAC. I re-installed the realtek drivers so I can use my MOBO's mic input. There were no errors during the installation but even after reinstalling and -booting non of my mobo's audio I/O was detected.

  • I'm running Win 10 (also tried it with 8.1)
  • MOBO: AsRock Z77 Extreme3
  • I'm using the x64 win8.1 drivers from the official webpage
  • there are no unknown devices in the device-manager (which is kinda weird...)

an O2 ODAC doesn't require drivers that's why. it works directly out the box. does the audio work on the O2 ODAC though?

I want to install the drivers for the mobo audio in order to use the mic input...
the ODAC doesn't have a mic input, does it?

What ODAC do you have exactly? I know the Mayflower ones don't require anything and should be able to take in a 3 and a half mm Microphone jack.

I have the limited special edition from Head'n'hifi. I checked and it doesn't have a mic input.

so that answers your question about the Mic situation. as for the audio stuff, disconnect the ODAC off your system and test the actual audio from the motherboard does THAT work?

I think you didn't understand my problem. I want to use my mobos mic input because the odac doesn't have one. But the audio doesn't work (See original post)

sorry for being unclear. everything is fine with the odac but the onboard sound and the mic input doesn't work and I need the mic input because the odac doesn't have one...

Right click on sound icon and go to Recording devices. That should bring up a popup and list of all available recording devices. Select yours and right click again on properties make sure it is enabled. Might have to adjust some settings to get desire levels and such.

As I already said: The audio I/O is NOT detected. It doesn't show up anywhere. Neither in the device manager (no unknown devices, not in the list of audio inputs and outputs) nor in the recording/playback options.

Might not be good news for you then ? You may have to wait until win 10 version of your drivers. I would try to wipe and reinstall your audio drivers but from my exp with win 10 that may not work. I had to wipe and reinstall 8.1 upgrade all my drivers to the way i needed them and then upgrade to 10 to get mine to work. Do not do the fresh install Only do the upgrade. Save your personal files and setting and such.

But really though, I've had some issues with realtek drivers and Windows 10, was sorted out by uninstalling them, and rebooting.

the problem is that I also had no success installing the drivers on 8.1

I restarted and reinstalled it a couple of times without any success.

Well do you have your front panel jacks plugged in/or correctly ? Sometimes it is the simplest things. A slipped wired can lead to hours of agony. :)

It ins't only the FP audio. And yes, it is plugged in correctly.

Considering the drivers updates are two years old on the support site try running this to check your drivers. http://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php uninstall when your done if you want.

I ran this program but it didn't say anything about a soundcard driver. It complained about a bunch of other drivers (LAN, VGA) but I won't let this program update them.

That is up to you then your back to this

guess I'll have to play the waiting game...
