I just got a new 1TB WD green drive. When I installed the drive into my pc I have had problems with setting partitions on the drive.
Originally I attempted to use disks tool in Linux mint however I could not create any partitions.
After that I tried to use the disk manager in windows. However I could not set any partitions.
Finally I could crate a partition with a 3rd party tool “AOMEI”.
my problem is now if I try and delete the partitions set by this program I cannot delete the partitions in Linux or the default windows disk tool. (just get a error saying partition dose not exists)
And I cannot add a drive letter to partition 2.
If anyone knows why this is happening I will find it really helpful since I want to get this drive up and running as soon as possible.
If you wish to delete partitions in Windows, it's best to use DiskPart in Command prompt.
Run CMD as Administrator.
Now type in "diskpart" without quotations. (I'm doing this so you understand what is it you have to type) this picture here lists the instructions you must do.
To make your lfie easier. you can use Computer management on Windows to see all the hard drives you have on your system. and each individual partition in each hard drive. as for how you know which partition is which. just look at the storage space it takes up.
Thanks, I removed all of the partitions with Disk part then recreated them again.
I have a feeling that since I was using multiple software and operating systems some of the disk partition software got confused, or did not update the partition table.
