[SOLVED] No sound on Arch Linux

Recently my sound on my Arch Linux just stopped working. In Alsamixer nothing is muted and I've turned the volume up a little bit for everything. The sound only works in Foobar over wine but not in chrome firefox rhythmbox, etc.
I don't know what other debugging info I could post so I will post on demand

Try running rhythmbox in a terminal and play a song. See if that generates a error.

It doesn't generate any error message it just doesn't play any sound

I've narrowed it down to be related to the user groups because I seem to be able to play audio when I'm logged in as root but not as a normal user. However I added my user to wheel as well as audio but I am still unable to play audio

Arch shouldn't rely on groups for audio anymore.

Whats your setup? What DE are you using? are you using just alsa? pulse? jack?

Happened to me a two times in the past, always after an update.

Last time it happened I dug after a solution for a few hours, I vaguely remembering that for me it had something to do with the default sound card being the wrong one. I patched things up by manually specifying the sound device for audacious and for mpv (the only packages that I use that need sound). Not really a solution, I know, but I had stuff to do.

Hope you get your problem sorted, and please post here if you fix it, I'm quite curious to see how you do it.

I'm using Gnome and Alsa

install pavucontrol(pulse audio manager..) and see if you can select your device as the audio device(motherboard, soundcard, hdmi..) then turn the volume up... let me know what happens...

I ran pavuncontrol and it says that my sound card is playing back the audio but there is still no sound coming from my head phones

Are your audio jacks plugged in correctly?

Just thought id ask.

@HimTortons have go to configuration tab and make sure you have your audio device selected... Go to the output devices tab and make sure that your device isn't muted..

Oh thank you I found the solution. I had to change it from Digital Stereo (ICE958) Output to Analog Stereo Output or Analog Stereo Duplex. Though I don't exactly know what they mean by duplex
