Hello LevelOneTech community, maybe someone of you wonderful people can help me rescue my dear computer.
Problem: When I start the computer fans spin normally, however nothing shows on the screen after a while it restarts itself. Continues trying to start until I un-plug it. Sometimes after leaving the computer alone for a week then it sometimes start but freezes after a while :(
I have tried: new CPU cooler(old one did not spin properly), new CMOS battery, booting with different and no RAM, booting without GPU, booting from live usb.
I am lead to believe the issue is mobo or cpu, however those are too expensive to replace. This is why I am writing here... maybe there is something I am missing, if you have idea what I can try at this point please write me...
Thank you ! Apologies English is not my first langauge.
It is Z68A-G43 it does not have LEDs that i know of. I have no permission to that link, however I cannot see much dust anywhere. I haven't opened the PSU to clean but I suppose that is not the problem.
Well, it's just a link to elsewhere on this site, where I tell of one of my most embarrassing tech fails. I have changed the link, see if it works now.
Anyway, most times there are two or more status LED's on the motherboard itself that will either show/blink red or green for instance. This can sometimes be looked up on the manufacturers website to see what fail code the motherboard is showing.
Nope I get "Sorry, you don't have access to that topic!" trying to open that link. Anyways the motherboard don't have LED's at all because its the budget model. Thank you for trying to help though.
If it doesn't there is not much else to do than to change out parts, and when you've changed every part (and yes, it can be the power supply too) if it still doesn't work you either have a dead motherboard or two/more components dead simultaneously. Do you know anyone who can lend you compatible parts? I'd start with the power supply since you have already tried different RAM. Have you tried just booting with one RAM stick and then the other? Also, some motherboards are quite picky with where you place them. Here is the Data Sheet index for your motherboard. And here is where to place RAM, so basically the blue slots should be populated before the black ones. Also, have a look at clearing your CMOS to stock configuration, just to rule that out. (And here is the pin layout, the clear CMOS is called JBAT1, and is down towards the lower right corner)
I am not entirely sure what got it working but: I did CMOS clear data with jumper, did not work. Swapped power supply started working, swapped back to old PSU... keeps working :D (so i suppose CMOS had an delay to take effect)
@dangergarden Awesome! Happy you got it working :-) Now comes the monitoring the next couple of days. If it breaks again you can go through the clearing CMOS again, and if it doesn't work, try with the other power supply for a couple of days if you can, and see if it still happens. This way you might be able to diagnose whether it is purely the CMOS thing or your power supply is unstable.
Edit: just come to think of it, if you haven't tried unplugging the power supply plugs before changing it out now, it could be just a flimsy connection in one of the plugs, and reseating it helped give it a proper connection.
