Hey everyone,
This is the first time I’ve tried playing games on linux, and my Ducky keyboard seems to have an issue.
I’m playing some platformers (Shovel Knight, Risk of Rain, Terraria) and when trying to walk left or right, it seems to stop the animation after a couple of frames. So it appears as if I am just constantly tapping the left or right key. This makes it pretty much impossible to walk.
But if I press any other key (up, down, space, any alphanumeric key) the characters begin walking fine, and the direction key works just fine until I release and press it again.
I dug out an old marshmallow keyboard (read: non-mechanical) and it works fine no problems. But it’s a goddamn disaster to try even a few minutes of typing on it.
Does anyone else game with a mechanical keyboard in linux having similar problems? Does it have something to do with the n-key rollover?
I tried finding answers, but I don’t even know how to really describe this issue to search for it.
It’s frustrating as hell, because I finally have some time in my life to do a few games, and end up troubleshotting not being able to use a keyboard properly.

A quick Google search came up with this. Sounds strikingly similar to what you describe.
I’m at work so my search abilities are limited. Can you disable NKRO on your keyboard? I wouldn’t recommend a PS/2 adapter, as for a number of years now, most PS/2 ports are actually just built in PS/2 to USB adapters. Sounds like the typical Linux HID drivers aren’t handling this keyboard very well. Just for grins, can you give me the output of the lsusb command? Maybe we can find a Linux specific driver for this keyboard.
i can’t help you solve the problem (as i do not have the knowledge) but i have used 4 different mechanical keyboard in linux games and all of them worked like they should. though i have not tried those games
Found the problem. Ducky keyboards have key repeat rate modifiers on the F1 - F8. I switched it to the fastest rate and then back again and no problems.
I initially tried adjusting this in kde settings, but that did nothing. I hadn’t realised Ducky have these modifiers on the keyboard.

Hey BeardWorldOrder. I’m having this same issue but with a Logitech keyboard. Do you know if the key repeat rate modifier is able to be changed in software? Thanks!
Luckily I found the solution. In Ubutu 19.04, *Settings > Universal Access > Typing > Repeat keys. If i decreased the repeat keys speed, than walking in Shovel Knight worked properly. Thanks!
