I have resently bought an asus rog g501wj laptop an yesterday tried installing linux mint 17.3 cinnamon for dual boot with windows 10. I have gotten mint to boot properly and seems to be running just fine. The only issues im having is that mint is not recognising that the laptop is plugged in and it wont charge the battery. It just hangs on whatever persentage the battery is at. Other problems include screen brightness buttons not working and the airplaine mode light is on all the time.
The other issues are not that big and i can probably fix them my self but the battery issue is somethin i havent found a proper solution for.
Has anybody else had this problem or does anyone know of any fixes for this and whats causing the issue?
thank you in advance for any help.
ps. sorry about the spelling english is not my native language
Would it be a pain to ask if you can download the latest Fedora live image and see if it works or doesn't in that (as a live system, no need to install)?
There are improvements with the latest kernel (4.2/4.5) which Mint 17.3 doesn't have, that may fix this depending on the kind of problem it is.
As for function keys, you may find there not mapped properly. You should be able to map them using xmodmap for now. I found that the brightness keys in my asus laptop were there but shifted over one (and one missing). I've not remapped them yet out of lazyness to be honest, but i will and will post them on the forums at some point.
For the airplane mode key, same issue its not mapped or recognized properly. I dont think it functions as it should, and could also probably be fixed, but again out of lazyness ive not yet tried.
Mint updater allows you to update up to 4.2 kernel at the moment. If the fedora live usb works try to update to the latest 4.2 that the update manager in Mint allows and see if the problems are gone.
I get home from work and power up my laptop. I boot into linux mint and plug in the power brick...the icon changes to charging?! I have no idea whats changed sinse last boot but ok now its working.
I did after this try booting fedora from a live usb and its allsow working there so maby it was a kernel issue. I uppdated linux mint on sunday after install and rebooted but it was not working then.
