[SOLVED] I am not sure how to configure the fans in an upcoming build

Hey all, I am planning a build (https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Momotaro/saved/hZYCmG ) and I don't know how I should set up the fans. There'll be a total of three fans, one 140mm on the front of the case and two 120mm on th radiator. How should I set them for an optimal configuration?

That build isn't very optimized overall, just to throw that out there, you could easily get a much better CPU/GPU for that budget, did you buy it already?

Otherwise the 140mm for intake at the front with the 2 fans on the radiator pushing air out should be fine, the noctua fans are a bit of a waste since the fans that come with your case and radiator are going to work fine

You really don't have much of any options besides the preset options that the case offers.
140mm intake (I would honestly just save the money and simply lower the RPM of the included front 140mm fan)
Then have the 240 radiator mounted to the case and the fans mounted to the radiator.
Are you really going to need those features that the Maximus VI include?
If not, then I would spend a bit less money on a AsRock Z97E-ITX/AC and grab just a regular 850 EVO in a 2.5" form factor.

Thanks for the input! I suppose it is a bit much. I was thinking of potentially using other parts but at the same time I've allocated this budget for the build and I would very much like to use these parts. Again thanks for the help with the fan question! :)

I'm just saying, you can get a 5820k with an R9 Fury at that budget with some room to spare

Though it won't be ITX, unless you were to shell out 250 for the ITX x99 board

I'll look into it :) I am a bit stubborn about this odd build but I'll definitely take a look!

We could always cram that AsRock X99 motherboard in there haha.
I adjusted the original build.
This is what I would do if I was just gaming. If the 4790K is required then I would just step down to a 970.

Sorry @Streetguru I forget that sometimes I have a reply open while trying to comment on the original post.

If it must be the same form factor then here you go:

If you're willing to go bigger form factor then the 5820K is a no brainer as @Streetguru recommend given you are doing video editing.

Could one actually fit it in that other case? I don't exactly have a lot of room to work with as I have a small apartment. It wouldn't have to necessarily be that same exact case but perhaps one that isn't particularly big. :)

If you want something ITX you could go with something like, case is smaller than the one you had before

What's your peripheral situation? Like what monitor are you using currently and such

I have two ASUS PA248Q monitors, a CST Trackball and a Nostromo Keypad.

I fit my build pretty well in the Ethoo Evolv ITX case. Its a little wide but not as wide as the 250D but a bit deeper and taller.

I love the case and it comes with a nice 200mm fan in the front.
My only problem was fitting my R9 290 in there since it is 2.5 PCI-E slots.
Working in there is a little tight but its do-able. It comes with a fairly nice side window as well. You can mount the radiator on top but the slide out bracket may seem quite troublesome to deal with initially.

There is also the Silverstone Raven RVZ01B or Fortress Z.
Which are quite compact but require you to get a SFX PSU up to 600W and of course low profile cooler or stock cooler.

So If I follow @Streetguru I should have a much better editing/gaming rig? I'm not well-versed at this whole computer buiding gig.

If you went with the x99 build, bar none it would out perform what you have in the OP, mainly the processor has 4 more threads to work with

Your motherboard is way overkill, and your CPU cooler, while nice, isn't exactly something you should fit into a build where you want more performance. Also the noctua fans are a bit unnecessary.

But if you really want ITX, than the other build I listed should be fine, if you already have a nice monitor and other stuff than feel free to bump the GPU to a 980ti, though recent DX12 events might make the Fury better in the long run

wait, you game on a trackball?

I do! I have never gotten the hang of using a regular mouse and trackballs have been pretty intuitive in my own experience. I think given how the suggested build looks I might just have to go with that. I find that it's fine for most of the games that I play since they're not quick-reaction games. Thanks for all the help!

However you wanna do it man, are you playing any games like CS:GO or dota where precision is pretty important, suppose the edit answered that

I played dota 1 on my laptop's trackpad for a while, still wrecked games as pudge too.

If you really like your nostromo, you could spare 100 bucks in the ITX build I linked and upgrade that to an orbweaver, which has mechanical keys and more adjustments, but it's kind of overpriced, it does have an extra row of keys compared to what you have now though

I've been thinking about that for a while but I'm also debating on whether to get the nicer version or instead saving up for a palette gear editing kit. Do you know if the Corsair Air 540 is particularly dust-proof?

I kinda fail to see how that's entirely useful, since it would be faster to just move the stuff in the editor

The Air 540 seems to have fairly substantial vent holes, so it probably isn't too dust proof, you might want something like a define R5 or Silencio Case for that

I forget which cases come with magnetic dust filters

There's something about adjusting photos through the palette that is perhaps hard to describe. I'll probably go with an R4 or R5.

but ya, anyways here's the R5, you can cover the top vents which should prevent a fair amount of dust on it's own

But the Silencio 352 might be a better fit since it's micro ATX and a bit smaller

Although I can't find the silencio case in PC part picker, so you'd have to get that separately, but the X99 build already has a micro ATX board
