[SOLVED]Computer freezing, when connecting something to front 3.5mm jack

Hello!

As mentioned in title, my computer freezes for like 10 seconds, when I connect either way headphones or speakers to my front IO 3.5mm jack. It also disconnects my keyboard for few seconds, which is pretty annoying.

Could it possibly be driver related problems or power problem?

I think we'll need a few more specifics before being able to help.

What are;

Your motherboard (or PC model if pre-built),
Operating System?

Many Motherboards should auto-detect when something is plugged into the front jacks and be able to switch. It sounds like something is messing with that.

My motherboard is Asus PH861-M LX3
Can't find a link for that motherboard.

OS is Windows 7 Home 64bit.

Ok, so that mobo uses Realtek audio. This usually works without additional drivers in Windows so people often don't install them. If you haven't already you can download the latest ones that ASUS made available for that board from here:

Give that a go to see if it resolves your problems.

It didn't resolve the problem. Still have those freezes.

That makes it sound a little more like a hardware related problem. Does it affect both front ports or just one? What about when you plug the same devices into the back ports?

With these types of ports you should be able to plug speakers/mics/headphones into any port and then tell the system what the device is; does it ask when you plug something in?

Just a thought, have you checked for a BIOS update?

There have been a few updates for that mobo since its release and most of them state 'improve system stability' so definitely worth updating if you are not on the latest version;

I have updated BIOS already, for other reasons.

That anomaly happens only with front ports and only with 3.5mm, not with USB or anything else. It does ask me, if I plugged in headphones or microphone.

Cool, looks liek we have covered off the easy obvious stuff.

At this point I'd probably try a Live Linux disk to test. If that all works properly then it looks more like a software problem. If the a similar problem manifests then its either hardware or still something like a buggy BIOS.

You could also try disconnecting the motherboard headers for the front ports and making sure there is no dust or bent pins in there.

Good luck.

Thanks mate!
