Socket 2011 or 1155?

So I'm trying to decide what mobo I want for my gaming/video ediiting pc build. I've gotten a few suggestions from people to really look towards the x79 mobo's that have the 2011 socket. They say that the 2011 should have a longer shelf life due to its support of future 6 core CPU's from intel. My question is do you guys thinks its worth getting a 2011 mobo? or should I just stick with the 1155 mobo? If you think 2011 then what 2011 mobo would you suggest? (going for a 1500 - 1700 dollar pc).

I think that picking up 2011 for that purpose is probably misguided. 2011 is a huge socket and, personally, don't think that intel would be going that large even for a 6 core processor.

A lot of people lean towards 2011 for tri or quad sli/crossfire, things that most people will never fulfill. Honestly, few people need more than 4 cores, or more than 1 video card.

The main reason I would direct people towards 2011 is for a lot of heavy, professional editing.

I think you should consider 1155 or 1150, simply because it is cheaper. Grab an i7 and you're all set for gaming and editing. I assume your editing needs are for purposes surrounding YouTube videos? You don't need anything more.

The 1155/1150 platforms will still last you a good number of years. 5 years + perhaps. Depends what is offered by Skylake or Skymont, and the future AMD platforms.

thanks for the responses! But yeah berserker, I want to make amv's (animated music videos) with Bluray disks for youtube and things of that nature. I guess I wasnt sure what kind of power and stuff I would need when dealing with editing ripped bluray content.

Bluray is only 1080p, so the power of 1155 or 1150 is more than enough. On a $1700 budget, you are within 3930k range, but it's a stretch for a well balanced rig. Really, a 3770k or 4770k is more than enough.

Okay, thank you very much!
