“In lies your heart will not share
the spirit inside you used without care”
I remember when this album came out. I don’t remember how I learned about it (probably a distributor pamphlet), but it’s a solid genre-bending album.
Visions of Atlantis also did a similar album opener the year before. Bit more power oriented (lines up with the next song on the album), so not as haunting as Infected Monarchy.
Jinjer: Inhale, Do Not Breathe
Finally gotten around to listen through HANABIE.'s records. Here Girl’s reform manifest from 2021.
Queen of Dreams slams this all the way through. Epically over the top solo in Call of Shadow.
Very satisfyingly heavy, interview with Plague of Stars here. They describe their style as pulling from doom, black, and gothic but I’d just go with dark atmosphere.
Funeral doom classic, been a while since I’ve had 83 minutes to set aside for a proper listen.
Trivium made thrash/power metal? What?
I had to check and make sure that the male vocalist wasn’t Timo Kotipelto. lol Definitely digging it.
Probably their magnum opus. It’s the only album of theirs that I own where I absolutely cannot skip a single track.
edit: Really hits the mark on a multitude of subjects that no one ever wants to talk about lyrically that are still valid 20+ years later.
Took me a while (a few years) to really appreciate this album, mainly because of the vocals, but I love them now. It’s just kind of raw and emotional. Michael Grant (the vocalist) passed in 2012, though. R.I.P. I want to say that he was the lyricist, too, but don’t quote me on that.
My Morrigan (cat) loved when I’d play the guitar down her back to this album specifically.
@MilzyBee Another Children of Bodom like/affiliated band is Norther. If you haven’t heard them, check them out. There’s also Janne Warman’s (CoB’s keyboardist) solo project Warmen (if you haven’t heard it already). Highly recommended.
