So i was thinking about all the new Smartphones and all the impressive specs they have (which is amazing if i might add) but i could not see what for do i need such a powerful thing! I mean its not like most of the people are programming stuff or whatever with there Smartphones! So can somebody explain to me why would i need and what for would i use these extremely high tek powerful smartphones?
So you need all that processing power just to check your Facebook account? That`s just not very smart!
Seriously though, it's overkill. I've never known anyone who had actual need for half of what their smartphone could do. You can write essays on your phone. Why the hell would you want to on a tiny keyboard? You can play games. Wwoooooo! Yay.....
Texting, calls, google, GPS, calendar planner, etc. Does a phone need more than that? No. If you need more, get a laptop.
Well i agree you man!
Bragging Rights...
Nothing more. nothing less.
no one needs the horse-power of the Galaxy Note 4 and or ASUS ZenFone 2. if they tell you they are they are most likely lying.
A laptop has almost none/half of what you described.
I use my phone for calls, messages, email, calendar, internet, hotspot, pocket camera, (video/pictures), music, gps, maps, gps traces, notifications/push:pull to other devices, astronomy related stuffs, games, video (youtube, or watching videos off my portable hdd, etc)
I dont use it much for writing other than emails and messages.
When you say high tech, what exactly are we talking about?
I know guys who edit videos on their phones. Power smartphone users exist. But no, most people don't need all that horsepower for texting, liking things on facebook, playing angry birds, taking selfies and watching porn in the bathroom.
I have come to the conclusion that I don't need a high end phone. I did try going back to a dumb phone but quickly gave that up for a bad idea. So what I need was somewhere between a smartphone and a dumb one. I did try the firefox phone but was burnt on the handset I got. It really wasn't a good experience. For the last few months I have been using a 2 year old Nokia I got on eBay for £25 quid. Windows phone isn't hideous, who knew... It's surprisingly good if I'm to be honest. I use Windows on my desktop PC along with many of the MS services like OneDrive. The App Gap often mentioned I have not been able to find. I think I have more apps installed on this old low end Nokia than I ever did on Android. The camera isn't great but it's more than capable of taking the odd picture. The navigation is outstanding. I recently moved and have been making use of "here+" and it's head and shoulders better than Google Maps. Cortana is way better than I could ever imagine. All in all this cheap windows phone is way better than it has any right to be. I think I will be getting a new 640 in a few months once I have seen what Windows 10 is like on the phone.
the app store just sucks. that's its problem. it just needs quality apps, the phone is quite functional for most. i think Windows Phone may (and i say that lightly) start to gain traction knowing it can be used as a Desktop PC via continuum.
Yeah, but that wasn't the point. We're both listing things smartphones are actually used for. My comment was "get a laptop" when you need more than those things listed. Like this other guy said, power smartphone users exist, and they don't make sense. Would I advise a college student to buy a $600-1000 smartphone instead of getting a laptop for their essays, emails (although email access is convenient through a phone, why would you make it your primary when dealing with dozens of emails?), researching, editing, file storage, etc? Absolutely not, that's insanity. Phones are nice. But they aren't full sized computers meant for easy access to power, space, organization, and work efficiency. Ever wrote a 12 page paper on a phone? Would have been faster and neater on a keyboard and 12+inch screen. The OPs point is that smartphones are really being pushed to the max and there's no good reason. Maybe if we start carrying fold up screens and keyboards? Raspberry Pi phone edition?
Some intense game once a year
Making sure nothing ever lags even a bit
Smartphone games are pathetic. If you want an intense game then get a console or desktop pc.
Phones are not made for gaming.
Was the last time you played a mobile game in 2005?
Some smart-phones have 1440p screen. What the fuck do you need that for on a 5 inch screen?
Your movies/videos are still going to be only 1080p and even if they were 1440p you would not be able to tell difference between them because the pixel density is too high.
Besides it's just going to drain battery even more. Anything beyond 720p on a phone is just marketing bait and stupidity.
Smarphone=$500 facebook machine
I don't understand why people go ape shit over every major phone release. They're going to use it the same way they did the last one. If i were to grab a $60 prepaid phone I would be able to the exact same thing everyone else does.
God forbid you get caught in public with last years android version!
That being said, I hate using smartphones. I can't type to save my life on a smartphone. I try every trick in the book, but the phone just keeps changing my words into some other thing. I don't even have to misspell it, it just does it. But I also have to keep autocorrect on, cause every time press a key I probably pressed every key around it along with it.
I do not need Google, GPS, or a calendar on my mobile. Or facebook.
I just want calls, texting, and address book, and a crappy camera.
My car has a GPS (NOT built in of course), my work is at home (so calendar makes more sense at my desk), and if I want to play games whilst I'm out and about, well... there's a reason Ninty's been king of handhelds a long time.
In fact i don't play mobile game at all because i don't even have a smartphone. But i see what they look like because my friends play them. And some of them look graphically very nice but the gameplay experience is terrible. Tapping a glass with fingers is really uncomfortable. Plus gaming on such a small screen just sucks.
Or having them dock like Canonicals idea.
I agree i wouldn't use a phone to write an essay.
But there are good reasons for a decently powerful phone. My question still is, what are we talking about when we say a hi tech phone?
Have you tried google keyboard with swype typing? It works well for me.
The good thing is like PCs there choice (for the most part) so you dont need to get a hi tech phone.
Yeah I do it sometimes. It's hit or miss. I have to manually spell out larger words, though. The phone decides: Mississippi = I miss the hippies (Example)
