So..Upgraded from a Gtx760 to a gtx970 today. Terrible performance

Okay. So like I said I upgraded today. Booted up battlefield 3 to see how it runs. It was already maxed and my 760 could get about 60ish frames maxed. The 970 gets a steady 7 fps . And I'm SURE the 970 is rendering it. Nvidia geforce experience said that's what is working. So like. What's up?

PC SPECS:

GTX970 TwinFrozr

Intel core i5-4690k

8GB Ram

750 Watt corsair power supply

Do you run any background programms like raptr(amd gaming evolved), video capture?
How is your gpu usage?
Do any other games run bad?

I keep my background programs on the minimal. GtaV Runs about 40 fps On medium 1080p, And my usage while playing battlefeild was going from 50 to 100 percent.

Reinstall your drivers and do the whole driver wipe thing

could just be that you got a bad card

also ya like totally shoulda gotten a 390

Update: Just loaded up black ops 2. No performance increase. But noticeable studders that basically make the game look like it's running at 20 fps.

I was thinking about a 390. But I've had...Bad experiences with AMD

Well now you've had bad experiences with nvidia

overall it's a better card, 125% more VRAM, potentially better DX12/Vulkan support, and more performance overall in general

but ya try the driver wipe first, if all else fails reinstalling windows is an option, and if that fails well you've got youself a bad 970 most likely

Lmao I would have but every single Amd gpu I've gotten has litterally died in the first 4 months. I've gotten 3.

There's an obvious user error... somewhere... I don't know what that error was to pinpoint it... but yeaaaa... so let's just go thru the whole process of installing another GPU...

I would, in order...

1) Make sure display is plugged into the GPU, not in the I/O back panel... even if it is, reseat the cable...

2) Make sure the card is fully seated in the PCIe slot... make sure it's in the top slot... make sure the pcie PSU pins are fully plugged in... (don't look at it and pretend you went through these steps... GO THROUGH THEM, unplug and replug cables, etc...)

3) Restore Windows to default settings

4) Clean out all the old nvidia drivers and redownload drivers... (to where your screen goes stoneage to a stupid resolution before downloading drivers)

Should work from there...

The problem is, there's not really a thing that presents itself as a "bad" GPU due to "performance issues"... it's either DOA or you fucked up a setting somewhere in 99.999% of cases...

Maybe you're the 1 in 100,000 but it's extremely unlikely...

Which GPU, what kind of case did you have? What was your fan set up, and what was your power supply at that time? Because there's no real reason 3 GPUs should have died if they were all the same model

What like a chance that I legitimately got a bad chip? Also I've reseated the card in both pci slots. I know for a fact my integrated graphics are off in the bios. I'm currently cleaning out the drivers. Anyway It differs from game to game. Sometimes it's higher sometimes it's lower. Like I was messing around with minecraft shaders just to see how that would run. Basically terrible. I just wrote this off as crappy support or something. Black ops 2 runs around the same framerate asd my 760 but that might be because Cod games cap themselves. Not sure. GtaV runs Pretty bad compared to my 760 and again. Battlefeild 3 is a nightmare. Even on low settings.

My 2 260's Died after 4 months. And my 7870 lasted about 7ish I think. Then just stopped outputting video signal.

Did you use the same power supply throughout? did they get plenty of air flow? There's many a reason cards die, I can't imagine most people have issues with their AMD cards.

I had a coarsair 750watt that died a few months ago too. It was in a fractal design case. It got nothing short of great airflow to say the least. 2 Fans in the front and 1 in the rear and top. When I opened the case it usually was REALLY cold. (Mostly because I keep it about 60 degrees in my house normally.

then it's a most likely a driver issue... believe it or not all GPU manufacturers do have quality control.... sometimes the card can get damaged in shipping (DOA) but it's extremely rare to be a "my card works but it's worse than the next to entry-level last gen card"... that doesn't make any sense...

if you actually go through ALL the steps I said, in order... I can all but guarantee the card will work properly... I mean your integrated graphics doesn't output to the GPU slot... so if you're plugged into the GPU, then having it on or off is completely irrelevant...

So, my suggestion would be to stop with the "I already did that" and actually go through what I said to do...

Also, what program are you using to count FPS?

It could be you just need to turn on vsync because you're getting screen tearing from the GPU putting out too many frames for your screen to keep up with

Well then you might have just had a bad PSU that was killing your GPUs, as it's unlikely that GPUs would just drop dead after a few months.

but ya, if you've already tried everything on your 970 and it's still not working just Return or exchange it.

I have a 144hz monitor. I'm using the steam frame counter to output frames and I just downloaded the latest nvidia drivers. And I've done 3/4 of your things. Currently working on the nvidia drivers. I've also gone into the nvidia thing and disabled all of the extra grapical settings you can use to make your game run worse/better

Lmao. I'm thinking about it.

Anyway It did ship while snowing but I didn't see any moisture on the card when I unboxed it.
