So um new AMD cpus this year?

So if the new game systems are using 8 core apus, does that mean we are getting new 8 cores for the fm2 boards?

If I remember correctly, the consoles won't be able to use all eight cores for games. Only four or six (can't remember exactly) cores will be available to the game. So I would expect to see something along those lines coming to FM2+.

Doubtful. The new game systems are using Jaguar, which is AMD's low-power/low-cost replacement for Bobcat. Bobcat was used in netbooks and other mobile devices. The new APU's will be Streamroller (successor to Piledriver) with a GCN GPU. I suspect that we'll still have only quad-core APU's. For general computers, 8 low-power cores doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Keep in mind that game consoles are (suppose to be) specialized devices.

well heres hoping friends.

From console ports, we may see more optimisation towards multiple threads being used, which means games are going to perform a lot better (In comparison to just using 2-cores and relying heavily on single threaded performance)

But I think it will take quite some time for PC games to become truly multithreaded, yes Cryengine and FrostBite are engines capable of using all cores available, and these games perform very well. all things considered (By this I mean they are very GPU intensive, which tends to be the limiting factor thanks to the game being able to use all cores the system can offer.)

I wouldn't expect a new FX processor till they release their new socket platform for desktop CPUs which is going to be a year or two from now. It may not even be an x86 platform anymore. It might be a 64-bit ARM platform.

So do i need to upgrade my AMD Phenom X4 cpu for ''next gen'' games?

No.

Thank you have a nice day.
