The cpu fan header on my Mobo stopped working, so I used my Pi GPIO to temp fix it!

Later on I got it to use the molex but thats not the fun part!

Did you have a way to throttle the fan with cpu temperature? Or was it just running full speed? This could be interesting. *finger pyramid*
Now i want a pi to use as a fan controller for my tower; did the bios/uefi have anything to say about a cpufan not being plugged in?
Just running full speed, but I'm sure if you connect the rest of the CPU fan wires (I only had ground and +5v) and wrote some code for it on the pi you could!
I only used it because as a 14 with no job I couldn't get a new mobo when the header stopped working (even though it wouldn't be necessary) And yea on started I got met by a couple of beeps and a message saying "CPU fan error" but nothing too annoying.
Got it running off of the molex connector my fan uses now, only problem is with the molex I wouldn't have the fan controller aspect! :( haha

did the spare fan header not work also?
It was the first thing I tried when it happened and nope, sadly :(
There are visible burn marks from both headers, I'm getting a mobo asap!
is your mobo under warranty? how old is it?
Sadly tis' not! Or maybe it is? I bought the mobo on Ebay (14, no job yada yada) so I'm not sure if its under warranty or not.
But I'm getting a new one asap!
Wow, i've never gotten around to buying the Pi, but i think 'd look at them now. Get a new MoBo though ;)
I only use mine for playing retro games and watching movies! haha
Why not just plug the fan into the 4 pin molex. Just take the 5v the Pi is supplying to the fan from the PSU instead.
Okay, yea having a Pi there would be cool as a DIY T-Balancer. However you say your just powering it using the Pi, not controlling it so there is no point in using it tbh.
+1 duno why you couldnt just spiced it into a molex.
