I would always recommend using full disk encryption. It's quite easy to set up during the installation of the OS.

I can still confirm that gvfs is still a piece of s**t at the end of 2019. It’s been years and gvfs is still not fixed and I don’t think anyone cares at all. We need to have the ability to get full speeds in userland via other location. It makes accessing smb shares almost abysmal.
