It's a watch... A damn watch. What the hell is the point?
WHen smart phones came around originally it was for the convenience of having your business emails on the go. As they smartphones got better people thought palms, this I remember teachers saying that palms were going to do emails only on palms (who actually like those?) and as things have gone on some people just have their phone. I have to wonder, are we going to have our phones replaced by these watches?
I don't really see the point of them. They limit stuff, they're expensive, and I think they're stupid.
so ur saying you dont have a use for it, then dont buy it lol its convenient for others that actually need the notifications go to their watch instead of pulling out their phone all the time, for example if you work in an office then looking at your watch is a lot better than a phone, that way you can see if its important or not and wont get in trouble. same goes for people who get mass emails, if its not important then theres no point on pulling out their phone all the time if they are expecting something.
Considering the price of some watches. Smart watches are really reasonably priced in the fancy watch catagory. And the do more than tell the time, so really there not as limited either.
They wont replace phones, just like phones didn't replace laptops and laptops didn't replace desktops.
I think they will become more common, but they might be more like tablets, useful but not for everyone.
I like mine(gear fit), i got it for free off my boss when they first came out. He has offered me some crap called a moto? or something like that, but this works just fine. tells me the time, tells me notifications, lets me change my music when im riding my motorbike. oh and i get 3-4 days of battery out of it. would i of got one if i had to go out and buy one? probably not, but i must admit i have sort of fallen for the functionality that they offer.
Exactly. I imagine people said the exact same comments when mobile phones started coming out. Even though watches aren't anything new, smart watches are, just like phone there going to improve id imagine, and many people are going to find them useful.
That's ridiculous. The usefulness of a phone is infinitely larger than that of a smartwatch, which is only good for checking notifications (that come up at the phone!) at best.
It's the same as 'Smart Water'...just another product to subliminally make you feel less of yourself when someone else has one. I think it's hilarious.
Because he feels like it. Besides why do you care? All you do in these forums is troll anyway (well not entirely...I did see a few posts in my time here...and another kat user ironically). Why do you have a sudden reserve for this type of opinion...unless you own one...lol
I have owned the Samsung Gear 2 (Android Wear flashed) for about a year now and I would not go back to a dumb watch for daily use. Why you ask? I will be honest, it does nothing my phone can't, but it certainly does it better: notifications are so easy to deal with, whether it be responding to a text on the go, or realizing an email; casual alarms, very important for a large tea drinker, with milk; calculator; GMaps navigation. All of these things I use constantly.
Yes my phone can do these things, and it indeed is the one doing them, but my smartwatch does it much much better than my phone or a regular watch that would cost $50 more. I have to charge it every 3-4 days. If I were to change anything about smart watches, it would be the displays - throw an eink tough display on them or something like that, fancy colours really add no value and it would make alway-on displays much more viable. TLDR; improves QoL for $150
If you are always sitting down at your desk and can freely whip out your phone with ease, then a smart watch may not be for you.
I can see why the exist, I personally don't wear watches, but it would be nice to have a watch that can also show me my phones notifications, like if i get an email that is just spam but didn't get filtered i don't have to pull the phone out be like "fucking spam" then put the phone back i can just look at my watch. Also if you are driving you can see if you need to pull over or stop somewhere to response to a text right now because of something major happened and for some reason they didn't just call. (because that's what everyone does right? instead of just texting down the fucking road like fucking retards. Been almost hit 5 times this year because of idiots texting on the road, one day i almost reached into their car and whipped that fucking device out into the cross road. (was on motorcycle) /rant)
I'm sure a lot of people buy them because they have more money than sense but that doesn't mean that there aren't practical applications for using one, and not all people who have one are mindless sheep. If you don't want one don't get one.
There are many people nowadays that don't have a computer because they can do all those things on their phone. Doe's anyone else see smart watches someday replacing a smart phone? Maybe not in the next 5 years but if say holographic tech advances are a smart watch can project a large enough screen i'm sure I can't be the only one that could see this future.
