It's been a long time coming but phones are now the most preferred device for connecting to the web, helped along by the adoption of 4G.
Also depressingly high selfie stats.
What I'm missing from all the articles that cover this is how the number of users changed.
I guess a lot of the shift in web connection types comes from people who haven't used a laptop or PC before to connect to the internet. (Like my mother, who is basically tech illiterate but now uses Google, Whatsapp etc. on her phone - something she never would have dared do on the computers of my father for fear of breaking something.)
