So I was watching the Tek, hearing about all kinds of stuff like the NSA doing this and that and so on, and I had an idea. Basically I thought to myself "I should make the most secure computer in the world"; of course, I doubt that I personally can do that, but I could make something somewhat secure. :P
So I went out to do a bit of research; the first thing I wanted to find was a way to login to a Linux computer without a password but while still maintaining security (as I believe passwords are a pretty insecure thing). My idea for doing this, was a card reader (NFC, RFID, Magnetic Strip, or Smart Card; any one of those, but preferably something like a Smart Card which requires contact). But it seems to be absolutely impossible to find a card reader which sits in the 5.25" drive bay, which is what I want to use if I do ever do this (which is unlikely, but still).
I was wondering if anyone knew of any places which sell smart card readers which sit in the 5.25" drive bay. The closest thing I found was this: http://www.smartcardfocus.us/shop/ilp/id~358/SCR243/p/index.shtml but that's a PCMIA Card, so I'd need an adaptor.
I likely wont actually build this idea anytime soon, but I'd like to at least know where to find the appropriate card reader. As well, even if I don't build this, it would still be nice to integrate something like that into my current desktop anyways. :P
I know I could just use a USB Key to do all this, but a Smart Card is cooler. :V Basically I just want an excuse to buy Smart Cards and actually have a use for them. :P But also, I want to see what I can do with this. I wanna do something where if you remove the Smart Card the computer automatically locks until you insert it again.
And I don't want something that connects to USB, I want something that's internal. :p
