Slight rebuild help

okay. As the subject says I am doing a slight rebuild of my PC. Do to the fact that my power supply blew and my CPU broke.

my power supply was the corsair GS600. while it is still under warranty I will have a new one shipped however it blew because it simply is not enough. So i was looking into getting an 1000watt. Mostly because soon I want to do some SLI, overclocking, liquid cooling, etc. So I have this PSU in mind

XFX 1050 watt single rail 80 plus gold. I like that it is only 169.99 after rebate. And it seems that XFX does make a good PSU.

And finally my CPU.  I just had the AMD FX-8150 8 core 3.6ghz or 3.9ghz (cant remember). with an asus m5a99xEVO mobo. The CPU is/was still under warranty however it says warranty is voided if you use a 3rd party heatsink. However I wasnt a fan of the CPU anyways.

I now have inherited 1,000 bucks (and whatever cash I have lying around like 100 bucks.)

I really want to go to Intel because I do game but I also do alot of other things as well. (i.e. photoshop, video editing, etc..)

So I am looking around online and I have found this

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8216636&sku=M69-7150

It is the intel i7 4770k (4th gen) 3.5ghz quad core.

and the motherboard is the Asus z87 deluxe which also has some nice reviews. (and who would ever turn down a free game and t-shirt? lol)

anyway I'd like to hear some opinions on my planned purchase. Money is not an issue in my slight rebuild however I do want to keep it at my current budget or close to it. Also sorry for such a big post.  And thanks to anyone who can help!

MY CURRENT SPECS

CPU: AMD FX-8150 (broken) Want to go to intel

GPU: EVGA GTX 550ti

MOBO:  Asus m5a99xevo (probably needs an upgrade)

RAM: PNY 8gb DDR3 (this will also need to be updated however I am just going to wait for the DDR4)

PSU: Corsair GS600 (broken) Need more wattage

No, you most definitely do not need more wattage.

I dont? I also forgot to mention that my unit does have 8 fans inside. My room gets pretty hot so I put quite a few fans inside. I'm sure its overkill however I want to keep the temps cool.

Those fans are not going to use 500W. 600W is more than enough to overclock quite aggressively. It's not your PSU that is the problem.

hmm. a friend said it was not enough wattage. Well anyways i do know that the psu is broken. Because I did the paperclip trick with it and nothing.. then I threw in his 700 watt and it worked. But back to the cpu/mobo iis that a good combo for gaming/editing/multitasking.?

Also if you have any other opinions about my current build that would be great such as is it time for a
GPU upgrade? and other stuff. I am pretty knowledgable when it comes to PCs, however a 2nd opinion never hurts.

Your friend has no idea what he's talking about.

If your PSU is blown, you can't do anything about it, really. Cantact Corsair about it, get a replacement or refund.

thanks.

I would try to get a refund for the power suppy and go with a different series from Corsair. I've run a Corsair 550VX (bought in '08 and still running strong today) and I'm currently running a Corsair TX750. The CX and GS series PSUs from Corsair seem to have a slight heat issue and from what I've seen, send most of their power to the 3 and 5 volt rails, rather than the 12v rails. As for the wattage, 1000w is overkill for any system unless you're running triple or quad SLi.

As for the upgrade, you're sure your CPU is toast? You didn't mention if you tried the CPU in a different motherboard or vice versa, so I'd check that first. If it turns out that one of the two is actually dead, I'd recommend going with an Intel setup. The Haswell chips are looking pretty solid, especially when paired with an ASUS motherboard.  The video Logan did with JJ showing how the auto-oc software suite works is beautiful, and when I upgrade, that's exactly what I'll be buying (automatic 4.7Ghz overclock anyone?).

lol yeah the CPU is broke lol i have this bad 3rd party heat sink and well I broke off some of the pins trying to put it back in the socket lol the heatsink was so trash like it wouldnt clip and i forced it a little too much haha.

In that case, definitely go with an Asus Z87 mobo and an i7 4770k. Click a few buttons and you're running at 4.5-4.8Ghz stable. You'll probably need a fairly high-end PSU and some sort of water cooling though.

Here's the video on the Z87 board overclocking guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DqIG_89Mcs

I would first look at upgrading that GPU

thanks guys. well i have no cpu lol so upgrading the gpu at this point would only push me back farther haha
