I have a 660ti already but I will be coming into some money soon and I wasn't sure if I should sell my current card and buy a 780 or buy a second 660ti and SLI them? Considering the SLI is a lot cheaper?
There's no right or wrong answer. Either will be a good solution, for different reasons. I don't suggest cards on performance per dollar alone.
If you were going to push a 1440p monitor, the obvious choice would be the 780.
I guess it really depends on your system, and how much you're willing to spend.
660ti SLI will be plenty of performance for 1080p. But it wouldn't be optimal for running mods on Skyrim.
If you can give us more info? What games you play? System spec? etcetera
I have:
Asus Sabertooth AM3+
AMD 8350 running at 4.4Ghz
8GB Corsair Vengence
Asus 660ti with the overclock out the box
I'm going to buy a new monitor at the same of buying the graphics card so should that depend on the card I get? I was thinking about the Asus Gaming range monitors.
I play a lot of BF3 at the moment, forgive the use of EA but I can't resist. I plan to get BF4 and COD and I'm very open with games. I prefer fps but I do love RPGs like Titan Quest. I also plan on getting Elder Scrolls Online next year. I have Skyrim at the moment with lots of mods and sometimes it does crash but overall it's not too bad. I have kinda gone off of Skyrim since I have completed it and the DLCs don't exactly grab me.
Hope this helps. I do run 2 monitors currently and I would like to eventually have 3. I don't want to play all my games across them all but if the option is there I would take that into consideration.
Thanks for the response, really appreciate it
Sorry I forgot about to mention the price. I get around £450 a month due to my job but I don't mind waiting another month to get parts but to know what I'm saving for and whether it's worth it or not would put me in a better situation.
Thanks again.
Not sure I can forgive you for using EA!
I assume that the ASUS gaming monitors are high refresh rate? 120-144Hz? If so, either card configuration will take full advantage of that.
You might want to wait for the emerging AMD cards. They are guaranteed to be a better buy, in terms of price to performance. Not sure if you're an Nvidia fanboy? Also, they could reduce the price of Nvidia cards.
There's an Nvidia holiday bundle, which includes; the latest Batman, latest Assassin's Creed, latest Splinter Cell. It would be a shame if you missed that!
I do prefer single card solutions. The 780 is great for editing, and mods. It does have a greater amount of boxes "ticked", so to speak.
The 780ti has been announced. I think that is going to be a Q1 2014 launch.
There's a lot to take into consideration.
Hahaha! Sorry ;)
Okay, thanks man! Really appreciate your help. I shall take these into consideration. I knew when I bought the 660ti it was a good overall buy for the price. No from what I could tell that Nvidia seemed to have a better quality plus PhyX but now I shall consuder the AMD range. Thanks again. Really, really appreciate your help.
You'd be surprised. AMD drivers are good now. I do use Nvidia for myself. I have to admit that AMD beat Nvidia at every price point, and I am silly for not using AMD. PhysX isn't limited to Nvidia cards. You can use your CPU for PhysX, but it isn't optimal.
Take the 7950 as an example. It can be bought for less than £200, here in the UK. Once overclocked, it competes with an overclocked 770, which costs £350.
Take a look at this video:

Take it with a grain of salt. I have been told that these games are optimised for AMD. Not only that, but the AMD cards will have the advantage at 1440p. Because of their bus and Vram.
Oh okay, I was unsure whether or not I would notice the effect without PhysX, obviously my knowledge very limited but I was unaware of that. To Mr. Expert, as I tried to make clear. I bought this card with very little knowledge so go easy on me...if I knew this all I wouldn't be here. Thanks Beserker! I'll definately look into the 770 and the new AMD cards. Thanks again.
I know for a fact that a GTX 780 will out perform 2 760's so 2 660 ti's are on the same boat. Not to mention Single GPU>Dual SLI. Go for the 780, you won't be disappointed unless you want to wait for the 290x next month.
