Skyrim advice required please

Hi guys.

I have been looking for an rpg which is immersive and keeps me interested, I seem to keep coming back to Skyrim...

I've got a few questions before I make my steam purchase:

- Do I need to have played the older elder scrolls games to grasp the story line properly?

- Is it worth purchasing the special edition on steam (I forget it's actual title)? What are the real benefits?

And last but not least..

- Will my system run it well with the high resolution texture pack? I've been told its the only way it should be played now. I'm worried about my gpu in particular, I've heard you need a 7990/780 or Titan?

My specs:

3770k @ 4.4Ghz

16GB 1600Mhz

ATi 7950 Boost 3GB @ 1050/1500

No but it would give you a good background on the lore of the series if you played The Elder Scrolls IV oblivion.

- Is it worth purchasing the special edition on steam (I forget it's actual title)? What are the real benefits?

Dont purchase the special edition unless you want to pay for all the dlc, you can always just torrent the dlc later if you cant afford it.

YES! your system will run skyrim maxed out, i know this because I have a 600ti, and the 7950 is a bit more powerful than my card, and I ran skyrim with over 200 mods and sharpshooter's extreme enb with fps average of around 58.

Your system will run Skyrim perfectly on max settings, with HD textures. I'd even speculate that you could download Nexus Mod Manager and push the game even further by adding some of the ENB recommended mods that alter lighting, particle effects, textures and environments even further. I have a similar setup (FX 8350, 7950 PCS+) and I'm currently playing the standard edition of Skyrim with the ENB performance mod, a bunch of weapon additions and some of the extra expansion mods that Nexus community members have made.

Just a word of warning though... Don't add mods if you're not comfortable ironing out a few potential bugs/compatibility issues. It might be best to just stick to the vanilla game first. It's probably the best RPG you'll ever play. I had never played a Elder Scrolls game before Skyrim, and I have now logged over 90 hours on it!

Personally i don't see the Elder Scrolls series as truly immersive RPG's, they are designed to be played by anyone and therefore major RPG elements fall short. If you want a truly immersive RPG then i would suggest something like The Witcher series or good ol' baldur's gate. Mind you Skyrim isn't a bad game, i sunk about 110 hours into it but it's not an immersive RPG in my opinion.

Thank you for the great advice guys!

With the right mods, immersion is possible.

The only people who know 100% of the lore are those who read books-worth of it. There is Elder Scrolls lore that goes just beyond the games, so I wouldn't worry too much about being out of the loop. It's loads of fun regardless.

Also, if you want to get the legendary edition (game + all DLC) for a discounted price, you can get it here http://www.gamefanshop.com/partner-Pistol/browse/gg2166-The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-Legendary-Edition/#.UnGZIvkcROw the purchase will also help us out here at Tek Syndicate.

The key you'll receive for purchasing it will be a Steam key, so it is the same as having the Steam version, except $23 cheaper.

I'd say the DLC is worth it because it adds loads of content to the game, and also makes mounted combat possible which is not possible with just the game.

On a semi-related note; Pistol, can you tell me Logan's current ENB? I need to show off to a couple console-only people tomorrow.

Thanks Pistol

If it helps you guys out and is a better option anyway, I would silly not to purchase it that way.

Again thank you for the info everyone I look forward to getting involved in some new lore, that isn't Warcraft (I've put too many hours into that already lol).
