Hi guys i just wanted to ask if i could run Skylake on my current PSU for a mounth or 2 until i get the money to change it.The PSU is a FSP450-60EGN.The PSU has been used since Jan 2009
Should probably change it no matter what you do.
What's your current PC?
Athlon x4 750k
ASUS STRIX GTX 960 2GB
8gb DDR3 Kingston Fury 1886Mhz
200GB Seagate HDD
500GB Hitachi HDD
Practically going to need a mostly new PC anyways then, might as well save up a large sum before dropping it on a rig, maybe waiting for a nice sale.
Should also grab an SSD to speed up your system before then
A PSU from 09 will likely not play well with skylake as PSUs need to be able to comply with skylake power saving features in order to prevent a hang.
You can use it if you just disable C6 / C7 powerstates in the bios.
The only thing that might happen is that sleep mode not work properly anymore.
