Watched the video LeeProtoType posted in the forums so I made a rant out of it.

This guy claims Macs are cheaper? Well, I BEG TO DIFFER! I can point out a lot of wrong things with this video.
Starting with the Office software, you can get that for free whether it is Google Docs, LibreOffice or OpenOffice. Those three options are very capable of all types of file formats when it comes to Word Processing, Powerpoints ETC.
For the operating systems, you don't need to go from Windows XP to Windows Vista to Windows 7.... If you want to upgrade you can just select the OS you want and install it from there, there are many options for that.
Now.... Viruses.... Just to sum it up ALL operating systems get viruses, yes that includes Linux. Windows being the most common, Mac being the least common and Linux very rarely gets viruses. You don't need to spend money on an Anti-Virus every single year. There are plenty of free Anti-Viruses that are plenty capable. There is AVG, Avast, Avira, Malwarebytes, ETC. Making is so you DON'T have to spend any money on Anti-Viruses. Anti-Viruses can't stop all Viruses. New ones come out every single day. Your best protection is Common Sense
I have to laugh, this guy was gullible and listened to Best Buy saying Kaspersky was the best Anti-Virus. Then he got a virus on his computer with Kaspersky; then he took his system to best buy and was charged $350, that is very expensive. My cousin Al only charges a fraction of that cost sitting at $80. A lot cheaper, and he also recommends a wide variety of Anti-Viruses. Some of them being free or paid. So if you get a virus, take it to a local computer shop.... Not best buy........ If you want to have a virus removed, google is your best friend or Tek Syndicate. END RANT
Or just use Linux :P Apples have their place, so does Windows. But really just use whatever makes you happy, but don't be closed minded. But the most important thing when it comes to viruses is to have a disc of what ever OS you use handy so you can re-install the OS.
first off no one should just upgrade to each new windows os just becuase its a waste. so minus that cost. and most of all, anti virus programs ARE the virus and thats how you get them in the first place. i haven't had a anti virus program in over 15 years and ive never had one since then. minus that cost. the only difference in cost maybe is that the cheaper pc laptops' components don't last as long as a mac and buying a new laptop every 3-4 years will increase the over all cost.
Anyone paying for closed-source software/platforms or their OS is living in the past. I find the mindless droning in support of either company (Windows, Apple) is just like little kids fightning. There are no facts that backup either side - the facts clearly show that performance, security, and cost effectiveness are at a peak on a properly configured Linux environment.
Good way to say it weasel, I still use an Anti-Virus as a failsafe on all of my systems. I will eventually get rid of it sooner or later.
I do have to disagree with some when it comes to cheaper laptops. I've had a $450 laptop last me over 6 years. I personally find if the laptop has been cared for very nicely, the chances of failure will be dramatically decreased. Though if a common part of a laptop fails, that can be easily replaced for a decent cost. Results may vary on that. I usually recommend refurbished laptops for people who are on a very tight budget and they work just as good in most cases.
I never use active antivirus, all I have is malwarebytes in case I need it because I never go anywhere where I can get a virus and I haven't seen anything more than typical tracking cookies in 4 years
That video is shit. Tha guy is pulling numbers out of his ass. Sorry about the language but it's aggravating how stupid some people are. I am writing on my android so u must excuse my fat fingers. Brennanriddel said one thing that stuck in my head a well configured linux, which I have never managed to achieve :( .
I find it hilarious that comments are disabled. I guess he can't take being told he's wrong.
I'm sort of tempted to make a parody that compares this to a Linux laptop. $0 for OS, $0 for anti-virus, $0 for word processing, etc.
I think it is possible to argue that macs are cheaper in the long run, but only if you make uninformed decisions about anti-virus, going to best buy, updating your OS so much, buying office, etc.
Plus, aren't OS updates on Mac OS X more like a service pack in Windows?
In macs defense: I wish more companies make higher 1080p screens for widows laptops. Or better yet laptops with no OS and nice screens. The screen on the Google pixel is nice but the CPU kinda blows.
