Skin Care!

Logan! Your skin looks really nice. I was wondering if you use any skin care products or are you just blessed with nice skin or is it some camera voodoo?

Cheers Mate

  1. Boil mud with Hungarian paprika for your mud mask
  2. Place pickles over eyes
  3. Take a shower with a small furry animal to use as the scrub brush
  4. The clawing and scratching will exfoliate your skin
  5. Cover body in salve and roll around the floor

This is how he starts his morning.

I miss Maks. ;-;

Well, this is the advice a renowned South African dermatologist (who specialises in acne) gave me:

  • Wash your face with a basic bar of soap - any will do, as long as they don't have perfume or too many colourants in them (he specifically recommended a plain white bar of Dove soap);
  • If your skin feels dry, you can put a little bit of Aqueous cream on it. Should your eyes burn or your skin itch, try using the varieties specifically marketed to babies. If it is too oily for you, you can mix it with a little bit of tap water (or distilled water, if you're really paranoid).
  • If you have very large pores on your nose (like I do) then you can use a warm washcloth and gently rub the surface of your nose with it. If you think this is too brutal, you can buy cheap pore stripes from a drug store and use that.
  • If you really want to, and this is optional, you can use a cheap toner with retinol in it. Garnier makes a decent one.

For the ladies, he advises against using foundation, since he tells me that it tends to block your pores and create more acne. Otherwise, everything else in moderation is okay.

Try to wash your face at least once a day, but no more than two times a day. Drink enough water and don't touch or try to pop zits on your face. You also have to bear in mind that everyone gets acne. Logan probably sits too far away from the camera so that you can't see it, or there might be some makeup involved during the production of these videos. But, I'm pretty sure he just sits far away enough or that he's really lucky.

If you're still struggling with acne, you should make an appointment with a dermatologist and have him/her prescribe medication or recommend a treatment for you. If you're interested in learning a bit more, I highly recommend reading Dr. Ben Goldacre's book: Bad Science. In Chapter 3 he discusses a lot of myths about skincare products and debunks some of them. All you really need is soap and water and *maybe* some petroleum jelly / aqueous cream.
