Hello all,
Just thought I’d share.
So I have a TrueNAS server with 2 pools, after replacing 2 drives from one pool, the other pool threw up these errors. It caused some concern.
So what I did:
By great fortune it did boot up and while it didn’t reference the faulty hard drive (just a very long string of numbers, around 15 of them), it did list the known good drives. Luckily I had taken a screenshot of the pool/drive arrangement before I did any replacements, so I knew which drive was a potential culprit.
First thing I did was re-attach all drives the way they were during the replacement. Then I found the SATA cable being attached, checked all connections (I may have been harsh with other cables during the replacement). I threw the SATA cable just in case and replaced it with a new one.
Voila, all back to normal…phew.
So my lesson learnt is:
- Take screenshots of the config before doing ANYTHING.
- Be a little more gentle to SATA cables
- Glad I had a backup before doing any replacements
May be this’ll help someone out there.
