hi, unfortunately i have been absent for a while but have been following tek syndicate on youtube :).
here is the problem, i manage over 30 windows computer, mostly over vpn (logmein hamachi), and im looking for a ultra simple ultra light lan messenger program. if possible p2p/serverless. i know that hamachi has a great and simple messenger built in, but for that to work i need to let users some control over the tunneling engine, and im not willing to do that (people will just brake it, its a fact). so im looking for similar alternatives.
i found some programs on the internet but nothing that got me excited. i just want a small program which runs in the background and has window over which i can send text messages to a user. and if it has an android client even better (but not a must).
do any of you have any recommendations? i would be forever grateful :).
They both look pretty basic. Are you looking for something to communicate directly with the user of the PC you are logged into? Or just for something the users can use to chat between themselves?
You could try Tox? It is P2P, but I don't know if it'd work on an offline LAN without some additional configuration. Assuming your computers are connected to the internet you shouldn't have any trouble.
i dont have a rasberry pi, and i dont know a lot about linux unfortunately. and my server isnt on the same vpn network as all the other people because, well, i dont trust them :D.
something like that. i came across them but wanted to find some personal experiences here first before trying to deploy them to all the people. its not easy to guide everyone step by step and wanted to save me a lot of trouble :).
im looking for something what i can use to chat with users if they have a problem, not necessarily in the same time while im working on there computer. i use remote desktop with multiple logon enabled, but if i need to work on something on there login session, they dont see the screen so they cant use chat than. i just hate using facebook while working on computer, and some dont have facebook so i have to call them on the phone (and some of them are in other countries so the calls can get pretty expensive).
ill give it a go. still collecting suggestions :). and yes, when they are not online i dont need chat, but it would be great if, at least on a local network, the program dosent need the internet.
