Simple build; look it over, would ya?

I'm building a computer for a family member and I'm posting this so the wise sages of BuildAPC can look it over and point out anything I've goofed on. Not looking for suggestions, just don't want to buy it all and find out I've overlooked something silly.

It's going to be used for basic web browsing (FB, email, etc.), very light photo editing and writing documents. They just need something minimal, easy to use and easy to maintain. There's no real budget but my goal was to keep the price as low as possible while avoiding shit components.

I'm buying it all from Newegg so the price is a little different from the price given by PCPP. It comes out to about $342 with shipping and taxes. I have a spare optical drive and it will be running a Linux distro (likely Mint).

Thanks.

Looks good!

Pretty solid; you might want to swap the HDD out for a 120GB SSD, though. Will they ever use 500GB - probably not. An SSD would be a nice addition, but it won't be necessary, obviously.

I'd like to do an SSD but I'm always concerned about longevity (even though my fear is largely unfounded with how the technology is constantly improving). I don't think they really care as long as it works and works well. Maybe if they were impatient folk, I'd have included it to begin with lol.

Plus, I can't justify spending an additional $60 on something they're probably not going to notice as the WD I have picked out is on sale for $60.

HDDs are fine for standard computers, but I think they would enjoy the benefits of the SSD. You shouldn't have any issue with longevity; the amount of read/writes they will be pressuring with aren't anywhere near the amount that could ever cause the SSD to fail. I would recommend it, but it isn't necessary.

Since I can't refute what you're saying I'll just go with this: They can't have an SSD in their system before me! I'm greedy and selfish that way.

Anyways, thanks for responding guys. And for the suggestion brennanriddell.

No problem :)

Just ordered. Even though I have some experience repairing computers and adding on to them, this is my first build from scratch. It's gonna be fun (unless I get something DOA; fingers crossed).
