SilverStone TJ07 vs. FT01

Hey Razers!

Making a long story short, I'm upgrading my (older) system from Core 2 Quad, GTX295, NZXT Tempest to Core i7, GTX295, and name case.

I CAN'T DECIDE WHICH CASE IS BEST FOR MY NEED!

I've been in love with TJ07 since summer '09 - big, sexy, and awesome for watercooling. I like the fact that you can install a quad radiator at the lower level, and actually be able to watercool every component inside, and still keep it silent. Also the options of casemodding. It's the perfect case for enthusiasts... but since it's a quite old case, it's getting harder and more expensive to get hands on it, specially where I live.

Now, few days ago I opened my eyes for this FT01. Almost same structure (unibody), good looking, smaller, and cost less. It's actually very similar with TJ07, exept it's mid-tower (supports 12" video cards). This case sucks for watercooling, but it's one of the best aircooler cases of it's class. And it's silent (18dBA stock fans + sound dampening foam on panels). Also it has a phenominal (positive-)airflow, and the top 180mm intake fan provides a huge amount of air to the CPU heatsink. Going with this case - going with aircooling. Not a problem at all. A good aircooler is better than a bad watercooling setup, as it is said.

I HAVE been looking around with a friend, for other cases like Lian Li, Cooler Master and other SilverStone. The Lian Li P50 was very close to be a part of my decision, but luckly it didn't.

So it totally stands between the TJ07 and FT01. dramatic drums

The options are:

TJ07: Full-tower case, coming watercooling, lots of casemod, breaking the bank, but may keep this case as long as possible.

FT01: Mid-tower case, aircooling, not much to expand, better budget, may upgrade later on (depends on the sizes of coming hardware.)

You may rate, comment and argue. Thanks for your time! I appreciate.

Nvidia has already stated that the GF100/Fermi will be the same size as the GTX285, 10.5 inches. However I still recommend the TJ07 because it's got more options, and is just a nicer case over all.

Word. I got a TJ07 for Christmas (for custom modding) and that thing is a BEAST. With a good imagination and a little modding you could EASILY fit a dual loop setup in there.

Definitely one of the best, if not the best case out there for liquid cooling and modding.

And remember that the TJ07 is pricey, while the FT01 is aimed at the budget market.

That's the point in FT01, it's like a budget TJ07 for aircoolers. If just there were a 180mm radiator, lol.

I see your points in TJ07, and that's why I love it. But all that casemod, and watercooling may first happen when the GTX295 is down, so I can buy waterblocks all the way around. But the TJ07 is an awefull case for aircoolers. Maybe if I could turn around the fans so the airflow is positive like FT01.
You're right, TJ07 = so many options.

I currently got a n00bie watercooling kit. Kinda wannabe Corsair H50, just older. Also I have 5x 120mm Noctua fans. They may become useful on a radiator or two. As you can hear, these plans sounds like breaking the bank, but all of this will happen when the 295 is useless. It's kinda waste of money getting a waterblock for the GPU asap. It's already a generation behind

This is like "xtreme vs. budget", complaining to the endless discuss "Nvidia vs. ATi"... My friend told me to get FT01. He said that all this "5.crazy GHz" is not useful for gaming. Also that a good aircooler easily can hit the bottleneck barrier(spelled?).

Other opinions?

Okay guys, here are some Danish prices:

TJ07B-W: $393 - 2 in store.

FT01B-W: $230/266 - none in store/43 in store.

I'll buy in the middle/end of January.

In reference to your comment about the 295--remember that no matter how new it is, any piece of computer technology is always a generation behind.

Personnel choice the TJ07. However I would go with one of the newer cases from Silverstone the RV01, RV02 (Both are the Raven), and the FT02 (The new Fortress case)

Ouch, those new SilverStone cases with 90 degress rotatated motherboardtray? Can't figure how in bloody hell they made it be possible, but it seems like Raven got very popular among aircooling... though I don't like the look of it.

I see you guys are reffering to the TJ07, but keep in mind that I'm not going into the extreme expansions like E-ATX, 15" long GPUs, 3-fire/SLI, and whatever is out there. If Nvidia can keep their GPUs under 12", and the good boards wont grow up to E-ATX (which I highly doubt wont), FT01 shouldn't be a problem. But all this futuristic hardware almost is impossible to forseen...

But what kind of casemod are we talking about in TJ07? Drilling holes in MBtray, painting, make a quad-rad fit, and so on? Getting a case like MuderBox is almost as expensive as a new system, lol. I've also been looking around on MillionDollarPC to get some inputs.

Casemod requires a lot of experience, work and creative. Some inputs would be appreciated.

The amount of modding required really depends on what you want to do. For references and ideas, take a look here, and here.

Also, you wouldn't really need a quad radiator--you can easily fit a triple in the bottom and a dual up top. Or a dual in bottom and a dual up top, and so on. That second link has a really good tip on easily mounting a dual rad up top.

That case is full of options. But sorry, guys. I'm picking FT01.
1, that's what the budget says (for this time )
2, good looking
3, strong build quality
4, smaller
5, silent
6, what reviewers say
7, better transportable for fx LAN-parties.
8, no plans of getting E-ATX MB's or >12" GPU's
9, as long as aircooling can overclock
10, I think you're tired of any more opinions, lol.

All the reviews I read either installed HDDs in all cages (bad airflow @ front intake), tri-SLI/fire (talking about a sauna?), or messy cablemanagement. Luckly for me I only have 1 GPU, 1 HDD, and got plans of calbemanagement.
I hope you guys can understand the situation. Heck, when I'm moving out, and getting a full-time job, you'll probably hear from me again... by then, budget wont be an issue

Thanks for info, guys. I appreciate your time.

I'M SO PISSED YOU DIDN'T GET THE TJ07!

Lol, just kidding. The FT01 is a great case, I'm sure you'll be more than pleased with it.

Looks like a great case!

cooler master haf 932, buy it in the us and get it shipped.... will be cheaper than those, looks nicer, great for case mods, and its a full tower.....

You do realize that you just bumped a thread that had been concluded?

You do realize that you just bumped a thread that had been concluded?

SilverStone got one more fanboy!  No reason for me getting into Cooler Master casesÂ

I don't know mang, I'm a bit of a Cooler Master fan.

GAMERASSIT WHY DONT POLL RESULTS SHOW UP ANYMORE

I'm having the same issue.
