Silent PC for Editing, Rendering and some Gaming

Hey folks,

im gonne build a myself a System for 3d Applications (Cinema4d, Vray and Octane, 3dsMax, Nuke), After Effects, Photoshop and some Gaming.

So i put some Parts together but im unshure on what wich CPU Cooler , Ram to buy (need 32Gb).
I choose a 1000W PSU because im planning to buy a second 980 in the Future.

The System will also be used for rendering so it will be on alot and should be not that loud.

Whats the best way to cool this Case, i wanted to put a Fan on the Botton, will that be enough?

My Budet is 2000$ and i dont need any periphials, storage,OS or optical drive.
Im not planning to overclock the components.

Thanks in advance for any help and excuse my terrible english.

You don't need 32GB of RAM. 16GB will be fine.

Two intakes and one exhaust provide plenty of airflow. Get another 140mm fan.

Noctua NH-A14S is a good option for a CPU cooler. It's not as big as the NH-D15, but it cools well enough to allow a good overclock if you wanted to in the future.

CPU cooler wise, If you're looking for silence, I'd go with something from noctua or be quiet.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PRpYBm Ditch the 980 and grab a 290x 8gb or 390x when they come out in the next couple weeks. AMD cards are just superior to Nvidia cards in computational programs. In gaming Nvidia cards win out but they really can't touch the AMD stuff in number crunching and rendering. I know some people said 16gb's is enough but there are some cases where 32gb's is needed and that program list is one where I feel 32gb's can be beneficial.

im gonne go for 32Gb any Recommendations wich one is good

I chose Nvidia for CUDA

OpenCL from AMD is a much faster way of rendering that CUDA cannot match.

Do not, I repeat do not get a 3TB seagate HDD for your rig. I put one in my super silent Define R4 build and it produced the loudest low frequency droning known to man! I could hear it through my headphones and tried to fix it by suspending the drive, but that didnt work either. If you want absolute silence, make sure to use SSDs.

As far as the cooler goes, Im currently using the NH-D14 in my "silent" build and noise is minimal - not completely silent, but good enough for me.

If I were you I would try something like this, if you have any questions and/or concerns feel free to ask.

thank you but i need an nvidiacard

I would happily suggest Noctua for your cooler. I have the NH-D14 and it is great but on the large side. if size is not an issue I would easily suggest it, it is also very good for overclocking. If size is an issue and/or you have no interest in overclocking they have smaller ones that are just as quiet and very good.

RAM. Usually what every is cheapest and what meets your needs speed and capacity wise. I have been using Kingston but RAM is one of the few things that is almost impossible to get wrong, just about every company is the same.

Some extra fans, quiet ones, more Noctua again. They are not cheap but they are the best both performance and silence.

Other than that you know what you want in the PC so I will not tell you otherwise.

I chose the NH-A14S as a CPU cooler, and i want to install a "Fractal Design FD-FAN-SSR2-140 R2" on the bottom of the case as an intake because there are 2 of these already installed in the case. IF i would get a notctua fan wich should i buy PWM or the normal one both work with the mainboard right ?

The Define R5 comes with Fractal Design GP14-WT fans not the SSR2's. Also I moved some things around to squeeze an Nvidia card into the rig.

I personally don't bry PWM fans. I just get regular ones, the Noctua fans come with an optional speed limiter as well so you can still manage the speed a little. And some motherboards are able to control the speed of regular fans anyway. I am not sure about your motherboard I have never used one. Check to see.

So im gonne go for this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yGYZdC will the parts play well together?

Is there anything i should do after i build my system (besides installing the OS) ? Like do you guys test the function with some software after you build a system ?

Sorry I didn't see that you didn't need storage that's my fault for not reading carefully enough. Moving on to the rig I'm about to recommend, this should be completely silent. The Phanteks I have included in this rig is more quiet than the Noctua you had picked out and it cools better. The GPU I selected is one of the quietest on the market and it's fans won't turn on as long as it's below 50 degrees celcius. The PSU I chose is fully modular which is really nice and is one of EVGA's silent series PSU's. This build should in theory allow you to run more quiet than the rig you were suggesting.

if i want to go for a noctua will the Noctua NH-D14 fit with the ram and mainboard?

Yes it will fit as the Kingston Fury RAM is low profile, but I would grab a NH-D15 instead.

This is my crack at this build. I improved the mobo, and saved some money on the ram.

I also reduced the case down to the R4. Why? because if you are not going to have a window, then all the fractal cases are black cases with foam. So I thought it was stupid to spend the extra money on a case that looks the same. If nothing else you can go with a define S which is also a cheaper black box with foam : )

The other two things are simple. I went with an asus strix card which will help with noise, and I reduced the PSU down to a 750watt version. It is still a silent PSU, but at least it is not uber overkill like a 1K watt psu.

The last big thing I did was I added the samsung SSD. I know you said that you did not need anymore storage, however this is an nvme SSD with read speeds over 1GB ps. So that is going to help in a pretty big way with editing.
