Shutting down Windows 10 without uninstalling updates

Hello there wise people,
I have come up with something interesting with Windows 10 today. Normally, I run Ubuntu. I only game on my Windows 10 installation. Well, today after playing a game (after waiting for windows 10 to update before i played a game to begin with) I noticed something when I wanted to drop back into Ubuntu: When I went to shut down Windows to boot back into Ubuntu I could not get the plain old ShutDown option.

I've tried EVERYTHING, and it doesn't work. I've tried pressing alt+f4 and using the old choices menu. I've locked the machine and used the power button, and I've even tried holding ctrl and or shift when clicking on shutdown menu, and nothing will let me just shut down without installing those updates. I like to let updates install when I'm going to bed, because I use Windows so infrequently now that i'm usually behind on updates.

Am I the only one who's experiencing this? Or is this more of Microsoft trying to dictate to us when we're gonna get our updates? Would love to hear an opinion from anyone in the know, or hell even Wendel putting in his two cents on the issue. Well, farewell for now as I wait for two hours for my updates to end.... god I'm getting sick of Windows.

try command line shutdown -s -t 0

if it works, make it a .bat file and add a shortcut to your start menu

updates are on the first Tuesday of the month.

I even tried that. It started updating as soon as desktop shut down. I just let it update, but I thought maybe someone else has seen this behavior?

I know alot of the community is Linux based here, but it was an interesting question to pose to you guys anyway.
