Shuttering in Linux Mint 17.1

I have updated the Nvidia drivers yesterday in Mint 17.1 the update appeared in the update box.

Since then watching youtube or my local news stream in full screen in the browser is impossible I can barley watch you tube in theatre mode all other video is OK on VLC except the usual shutter I get in all Linux installations the kind of shutter with no drop in frame rates just the flicker.

Watching video in the browser was never 100% ever since I had this PC, its actually my 24TB NAS lacking the 32GB of RAM and the HDD's the FreeNAS project is on the back burner until I graduate and get a better JOB.

I am also getting dropped frame rate on the desktop applications like when I open Chromium, I don't know what the actual frame rate is because i cant install fraps on Linux.

I am running a the following hardware:
supermicro LGA1156 motherboard
Xeon x3430
4GB EEC DDR3 (Not sure of the speed)
Nvidia 8400GS 256MB PCI-e x1
60GB OCZ SSD

I done some research on the TEK Fourm already and some people seem to be suggesting a SMART Test on the SSD, I have done one and it says OK in all the Assignment tabs but 288 bad sectors

Due to my rural location, I have really shitty satellite broadband. To get round it's affects on youtube, I download videos with http://en.savefrom.net/

Until you can afford your super NAS, I'd think about picking up a cheap secondary disk for data storage. There's plenty on ebay for less than $10.
