I just started PC gaming with a dell optiplex 760 I got for $150 with a Core 2 Duo e8500 (3.16 ghz), a GT 640 and 5 gb of ram but I want to build a more serious gaming pc and i was thinking about using the AMD 8350 CPU for the processor but we are on the edge of the new generation of consoles and intel has PCI-E 3.0 so i was thinking maybe spending more for an intel CPU just to have that but i know the 8350 is capable, but they dont have the newer technologies in their chipset.Even though ive heard PCI-E 3.0 is just hype im still kinda stuck right now im not even sure which graphics card i would want because thats the most important part of a gaming PC. The case i want to use is the NZXT Phantom Red full tower with the corsair CX750 PSU and 8 Gb of Corsair vengence ram i have a budget of about $1200 and i already have the OS and a Hardrive. I play pretty much anything like quake, bioshock infinate, Sleeping Dogs, DOOM, Alan wake, Ben There, Dan that, to list a few from my steam library but i would like a pc that will also do well with next gen. This is my new egg wish list http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17392249 for some refrence
It would be easier to tell us your budget and what kind of games you wish to play. Then we can post different build ideas.
And it is true, we haven't completed the PCIe 2.0 cycle. Intel could be better for longevity, but you will be fine for many years with an appropriate AMD build.
And the next line of AMD processors are a long way off, it wouldn't be worth waiting.
Thanks for the input I added some details that might help.
This includes an operating system. I am unsure if you only require the build, or if you need peripherals.

You can certainly have an Intel option, but the 8350 is a pretty good all-round CPU.
