Should I use a DAC?

Hi, I am new to the forums and I would like you say 'Hello' and ask for some advise.

I have been following Tek Syndicate for a long time on Youtube and I remember a few episodes of 'The Tek' there was a lot of talk about DAC's and improving the quality of sound.

I own a pair of Bose QC20i's which I use for commuting to/from work on a train and also PC gaming. I enjoy the quality of sound and love the noise canceling they provide.

My question to you guys is will a DAC improve the sound on the QC20i's and if so would it be worth the money?

Thanks

Darren

If you now use the onboard sound: yes. Get something like this: http://hifimediy.com/DACs/ready-made-dacs/sabre-dac-uae23

Cheap, and it improves sound pretty well.

Would I see much improvement with Bose QC20I's?

What is your source?  Many DAPs and phones don't support usb audio.

You'll always see an improvement, as the DAC will be a link in the chain and as everything is better than onboard sound. It is just the question of whether you DAC, amplifier and speakers are in balance with respect to price and performance.
