I suppose this is a welcome to the forum then!

You will notice a huge performance increase from a 6850 with a 7950. The MSI 7950 is a great choice, as well. I say go for it!

what's your CPU and clocks, and your ram, probably 100-120 at least I'd say but I'm not an expert

my friend upgraded from a 6870 to a 7950 and he loves it, and I love his 6870 he gave me!

Are you using programs like Photoshop? If so, Cuda will help sufficiently. I recommend getting a GTX 660 Ti.

You can upgrade, when the new 8xxx comes out, sell it for good price and add some money and get 8xxx.

There's no reason to upgrade 6850 right now because it runs games just fine so I would wait for HD 8000 series.

Btw is there any specific date about when the 8000 series will come? Like this year, next year?

The only hint of the 8000 series so far seems to say they'll be out by Christmas. That's all we've got really. 

As for your 6850, sell it with all the original accessories and you could get $110. That's about the average of what people are willing to pay right now on eBay.
