Should i upgrade to GPU?

Hi guys.

Should i upgrade my GPU from gtx690 to gtx980 SLI or upgrade my main board(x58) first? still using PCI express 2.0 :(.

upgrade GPU x1 > mobo > GPU x2 (making SLI)

The GTX 690 is a very fast GPU

But SLI GTX 980s would be faster and very expensive $1100USD

and if you were to upgrade from x58 mobo you would need 

  1. z97 mobo 
  2. socket 1150 CPU
  3. maybe new ram
  4. ???

It really depends on what you use your system for, do you notice a need to upgrade? Or you could just want to upgrade (which people look down upon and it makes me crazy, its your money, do whatever makes you happy), one thing you can do to offset the expense is to find a buyer for the old system or the GTX 690 so that instead of having to send XXX amount you will be spending half of XXX. With the new X99 boards out I'm feeling the itch to make a new system, but I can't justify it. Just my two cents :)

I'd upgrade your CPU/mobo first. There is a pretty significant improvement in going from a 690 to 980s (980s a tiny bit faster than 780 Tis http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1073?vs=1184 ) but X58 is very old, whereas the 690 is only a couple of years old.
