What games do you play? Also your res is important.
Well I'm looking to get an ultra wide G-Sync monitor so I want as high res as possible. Im currently enjoying Overwatch right now but try to keep up with most games if I can.
IMO, I'd wait. I'm gaming at 4k pretty decently with a 1070, which may have a slight over the 980.
But if you're going ultra wide, the 980 will be perfectly capable.
So it's your call, but I would wait for the next generation.
Thanks! That is definitely something to think about. I do want a smooth gaming experience at 4k and I'm wondering whether it would be a good idea to sell my 980 while it's still worth some decent money?
A 980 will be worth it for a while still. The 600 dollars it used to be worth compared to whatever you sell it for will always make it feel like you sold it at the wrong time. Wait for something significant. A 980 is still very high standard.
Sure, you can buy another GPU and get some performance gain.
But keep the idea of 'Diminishing Returns' in mind. :)
Well according to notebookcheck even the laptop version of the 1070 is more powerful than a 980Ti.
Guys thanks for the help. Still not sure I can make my mind up though.
Obviously everyone here already has an opinion, so to ask for complete system specs would be a complete waste of time, right?
i5 4690k @ 4.4GHz
Evga gtx 980 sc acx 2.0
16 GB DDR3 corsair vengeance ram
Asus Z97M-Plus
Corsair H100i
OK, that looks fine. And the target resolution is 4k at 60Hz? For new titles? If so, 1080Ti or whatever comes after that might be the better choice. Who knows, maybe vega will be an option. Until then just live with the 980. It should handle anything on high settings no problem.
Yes that would be the target resolution for most new titles if possible?
Appreciate the help, I think I might stick with my 980 for now as there is no rush.
