Should I upgrade my CPU?

I've been running on my trusty 1055t for almost 4 years now. It served me really well and I was able to achieve an overclock of 4Ghz on it. However, I think it's time for an upgrade. I've upgraded my GPU to a GTX 680 4GB about a year ago and I've had the feeling since then that my CPU was holding me back. It's even worse when it comes down to content creation. I bought this chip when it got out because at the time I needed a editing workstation on a budget. The benchmarks that I am seeing nowadays show my 1055t getting absolutely crushed by modern top tier CPUs. That's without talking about the slowdowns I witness while playing Battlefield 4 and heavy CPU based games like Arma 3 and Total War Rome II. That's what made me think that it was the time for me to make a significant upgrade to my workstation. The only thing is, I don't know if I should go with:

Asus Z87-WS with a 4770k

or

Asus X79-E WS with a 4820k or even a 4930k

Those are pretty much my two options right now. Other than that I would need to wait for another generation to come out (x99??). What should I do? Go with the 4770k and the Z87-WS, with the 2011 option, or wait for the new chipset to come out with Haswell-E??

Sorry if my English isn't that good, I'm from Québec ;)

I'd say go with the 4930k since it has more cores. I'm curious is your os drive a hd or ssd?

It's an SSD. Patriot Wildfire 120Gb. I've also got some recommendations to get an 8350 with the gigabyte 990fx-ud7 but I'm not sure.

I wouldn't bother with the 4820k unless you need the PCIe lanes and 2011 features on a budget. Otherwise, If you are looking to spend less go with the 4770k or if you really want top tier performance go 4930k.

If you are doing hardcore-parkour editing too the point you feel you will need a 4930k, get it. If you feel you are not doing enough editing for a 4930k too be worth your money, the z87 platform is your best bet (this is coming from an amd guy). I would get a 4770k with an asus z87 ws motherboard.

I would go with your option if it wasn't for the fact that I really don't like the color scheme of the Asus z87-ws. My color scheme is all black and UV Blue with Silverstone AP123s.

I'm (technically) from Québec too <3

Awesome!! A fellow brother from Québec! What would be your choice between the few options I have?

i recently had my friend upgrade his FM1 board with low end APU for an Asus Z87 Plus with a 4670k (which i helped him install over the phone lol). works great, good price too, but yeah..... that baby poop gold is the worst =/ i hope Broadwell (Z97?) will be green or something lol
