Should I trust online tools, or is it even sensible?

I have been thinking to buy a new cpu, and there happen to quite a few online tools giving value per dollar, dpes it make sense.

  1. CPU monkey
  2. CPU benchmark

and there a couple more

Buy a CPU if you need it. Buy as much as you can afford.

Sometimes number on a paper (or website) dont really mean much, especially these days.

Benchmarks test the same dataset over and over for apples-to-apples comparisons. The actual user experience will always vary as different people do various things on their PC.

They are a valid indicator of relative performance in specific conditions, but not in every conceivable user environment. Caveat emptor.
