Should I root?

I have a Kindle Fire HDX, and it's under warranty for another year. My question is should I root? I plan to install a launcher and get full access to GooglePlay, but I'm afraid of having to send it in for a replacement and root being overt. I'd prefer to keep the warranty, but I'm curious if I can just stay on the stock Rom and send it in.

What country do you live in? It looks like root works for only certain devices?

In Europe you are covered for hardware faults (for 2 years) despite the software you are running, assuming the software you are running didn't cause the hardware fault. For example if you brick the device installing 3rd party OS you would be responsible. If you install an official update that bricks the device amazon is responsible. If there was a screen fault not caused by software, they would be required to fix it despite the software running. However if I remember right the catch is it may be your responsibility to prove (after 6 month of owning the device) that the fault was not caused by anything you did.

For other countries, if you are able to unroot, you are normally fine, unless they have some sort of root checker built in.

Its really sad that Android has been twisted this way. The problem with bricking the device in the first place is because they lock down the bootloader and attempt to close off the system.

I live in the U.S. I wish there was one OEM who just left the bootloader unlocked.

For reference.

Nexus devices are imo the most open. One command and the bootloader is unlocked, one command and its rooted.

Sony devices are generally easily unlockable (requiring a code from there site per device) but have some weird oddities like camera degradation if you flash something on it.

Motorola devices these days are generally unlockable (same as sony) (though only developer editions keep their warranty as far as i know?).

Unfortunately the way phones are perceived (locked down hardware youre not allowed control over) you get screwed with warranties unless your government actively tries to protect its citizens from companies trying to screw you over.

yeah im curious too, i have a shield tablet and will rooting it void warranty. im in the us and bought it on amazon also if it does can i unroot and will they be able to tell?

Rooting it will probably void your warranty. The best thing to do is research, see how good the rooting method is, and the unroot method. If your near the end of your warranty anyway id go ahead and root, especially if you can put a custom rom on it, you can extend the life of the tablet nicely.
