Should i go with the gtx 680 superclocked or a 2 way gtx 670 sli!

Hi everybody. i was going to make a gaming PC build for $1800 and use the specs from the $1800 pc build video on tech syndicates youtube channel but i made some modifications to fit my preferences. However  i have some money left over and i was wondering if i should get another gtx 670 to make it a sli system or get a superclocked version of the gtx 680 video card.

On a single 1080p monitor, I'd for a Superclocked 680. The 670 SLI will most definitely be a better performer, but multi-GPU configurations are still power hogs, creates heat issues unless you have a wind tunnel for a case, and delivers inconsistent performance as well an issue with micro-stuttering. SLI is really only worth it on super high resolutions (including multi-monitor set ups).

Rule of thumb tends to be go with one card where possible, this will help with heat and power issues.

Personally, if it just gaming, id go with the 7970 over the 680.

I would go with a single 670, a much better deal.

yeah i think i may go for the radeon 7870 instead. by looking at the benchmarks and how everyone likes it i think i may go with the radeon instead

thanks!!!

If it's between two GTX 670s or a GTX 680, then definitely go for the two GTX 670s. That's going to give you better performance, and more performance is always better in my book. People keep talking about  how it's going to use more power and create more heat. More power is definitely an issue, but if you're considering going for two cards, then you're probably already thinking about getting a power supply that's going to handle them, and a lot of people get power supplies that will be able to handle two cards anyway just in case they want to upgrade down the road.

Heat is a non-issue these days, so I don't even know why people mention it anymore. Most cases on the market will be able to accomodate for the extra heat easily. Just buy a case that has good airflow (90 percent of cases on the market have great airflow). In other words, don't buy a shitty case. There are $50 cases out there that have sufficient airflow for a dual GPU setup.

In summary, people need to stop making stupid suggestions. Heat was something to worry about in 2008 when only the best cases on the market had a significant amount of airflow. This is no longer the case today. More performance > less performance.

If you do go with dual cards, then make sure you're getting a motherboard that gives you a space between the two of them, so they are able to breathe. That should be your only concern with dual graphics cards.

Also keep in mind that a single high end card should work just fine for 1080p gaming, so you might want to put your money in other places (SSD, nice heatsink, etc.) just to make sure your computer is a great all-around machine. If you have already put money into all of those areas, then definitely go with dual cards.

You might want to think about higher resolution monitors with dual cards as well somwhere down the road.

Yep, straight up gaming, 7970 IMHO wins over the 680 for price/performance, if you were going to use Adobe CS then the  680 would be the way to go......the the few exta $$$ you save can go on getting a better keyboard, gaming mouse or headset.

I would go with nvidia for project shield but you may think differently.

I agree with you there. Two 7970s in crossfire would perform significantly better than two GTX 670s.

i will pprobilliy go for the radeon 7970 instead just because i think i woill better suit my preferences

but thanks for all the responses guys and i hope you have a great day!!!!

No it wouldn't, they perform about the same.

The radeon 7970 vs gtx 670 is a much better comparison.

"Heat is a non-issue these days"

I think your not taking into account when people (or I) talk about heat, its about all aspects of heat management, not just temperatures inside the box.....the noise created when expelling this hot air from 2 ramped up GPU fans, a over-clocked super hot AMD and all the case fans is a "heat" issue, that manifests itself as a noisy PC rather then a hot PC.

Can you link me to thouse benchmarks?

i went with the price to performance benchmark
