Should I get a 21:9 Monitor or a 1440P monitor or a 120+Hz Monitor?

Hey there,

I am looking to buy a monitor. I was thinking about getting a Crossover 21:9 monitor and then I came across 144Hz monitors. Sell me on both. I have no clue what to get. I would like a 21:9 because it looks great for the games I play and it is IPS but at the same time, they have low refresh rates. I did see a Crossover 21:9 1440P monitor, but it was expensive. Any thoughts?

what are your system specs, and what kind of gaming do you do?

I would say go 1440p looks amazing. 21:9 is cool and all but not all games can do it. Plus if they can the interface in the game sometimes doesn't account for the aspect ratio.

I am currently using a 280X but I am building a new system. I am still deciding on whether I want to get a 980Ti or 2x GTX 970s.

Mostly single player games and tactical shooters like the new Rainbow Six, The Division, and the new Ghost Recon. Also games like BF4 and GTAV.

Also planning on getting into CS:GO.

For me personally I would only consider the 21:9 in a 34" or so model. The 29" seems really small vertically.

I could possibly just get a 1440P Crossover 34" but I guess that leaves me with the question: Crossover or 144Hz? Not to mention that 144Hz isn't IPS friendly.

i would go for a fury at taht point. HBM will make a big difference. TBH, you could go for a 144hz for those games, but 1440p works too.
it's all down to whether you prefer graphics or framerates.

Nah, I've tried AMD and now I want NVidia. I like to try new things so I don't have a biased opinion and I like new experiences. Not to mention my NVidia Shield Tablet can use an NVidia card.

you'll probably not use the shield that much, at least for gaming. too much latency on wifi. AMD has something totally new here, and the memory speed is astounding.
I personally don't like nvidia's love of everything proprietary. you can just as easily use teamviewer with an android tablet.

Do you have anything like a Micro center near you where you could see an actual 21:9? I personally really like it, but that is something you need to see yourself I feel.

I suppose I will consider it. Not sure if I can fit a watercooler into my case though, and heat may be an issue as the case is small. Fractal Design Node 804 here. I've got a 5Ghz router so I was hoping it wouldn't be an issue.

Dang, I didn't think of that. Maybe Best Buy has one, I just moved and my old city has one I just never went to it.

no, they're total shit.

the 804 can fit one onto the top fan mounting

Dang, that's honestly sad to hear.

The thing about the GPU is, if I decide on one 980, then I am going to get the case I want.. The Node 202. If I get 2x 970s, then I will get the Node 804.

Back to the topic at hand. Any suggestions on the monitor? You guys are literally making my life a thousand times easier.

you can't fit 2 cards into the 202.

Right, that's why I said if I get the 980, I am getting the Node 202. If I decide on 970 SLI, I will get the Node 804.
