Should I buy an MSI X99a -Sli PLUS or an ASUS X99a?

The MSI one goes for 190 euros while the Asus costs 229. Has anyone used any of these boards? Where you satisfied?

Thanks for the help guys!

Honestly, i have heard a lot of good things here and there about Asus X99 boards, and in the last couple of years Asus has become really reliable when it comes to motherboards NOTHING ELSE.
As for MSI, i personally have never had a good experience with any MSI product that i have ever touched.
If i may ask, why you chose between those two specific boards? Is there some criteria, that they cover, that other similarly priced models like Asrock Extreme4 or Gigabyte UD3/UD4P for example does not?

I haven't really look for other mobos since the msi one has a special offer on it and I am coming from an Asus mobo so I know how reliable they are. I am trying to do a color theme build so I didn't want any colored parts, I couldn't modify, messing my build. But if they are superior, I will look into them.

Black and white build?
Pure curiosity: what will be the colored parts in the build?
On topic again - At that price, if it was me, i would not risk it with MSI, no matter i just made my black pants black and white... It is that beautiful, but damn, MSI...

I've got no constructive comments to make but I'd just like to say it took me a minute to realize it wasn't just one person talking to themselves in this topic.

I was thinking about black and purple or black, purple and some white. It is just if I am not going to gain at least something performance-wise I would like to go with the msi one since it cheaper. As long as it is safe for my other components and the mobo isn't going to die on me out of nowhere.

I saw one video of Logan using for a rig and he didn't say anything bad, however it was before it was used I think

Hahahaha, whaaat

I have an X99-A and I love it. I understand your looking at MSi boards though. It is essentially a Deluxe without the cooling and NIC.

Man this is tough. I was ready to order the new parts and then I ready all those comments about Msi and now I don't know what to do.

People are hesitant to buy MSi boards because something was wrong with the PCB and some guy (TechYesCity???) complained about it. I believe MSi fixed it. I think @Logan used the SLI Plus in a few of the rigs he built. You could try asking him what he thinks.

How can I ask him?

Well, he'll get a notification because Zippy tagged him. Whether or not he checks those or will respond is up to him lol.

Oh OK. Thanks!

I'm actually in a similar situation. I have a long history of building systems with Asus boards, but after some research i discovered some people were / are having issues with Asus X99 boards killing their CPUs (http://www.overclock.net/t/1561131/5960x-dead). I'm not sure if the issues is actually the board, the PSU or a combination.

Maybe someone with more understanding / knowledge could offer an assessment / comment. I know it would surely help clear up some of the confusion / uncertainty in my mind.

Honestly, I have red a lot of problematic X99 builds, because of compatibility issues in the early X99 days. Gigabyte did not have their mobos ready, they had to do bios update to start working properly, EVGA had some issues with theirs as well, some functions, like multi gpu setup not working properly, but my guess will be those extra Asus OC pins on the socket.

As a pc builder (and IT Supervisor) for a US ratailer, I've had the most trouble with Asus boards (over evga, msi, and gigabyte that we sell) not being ready for launch on day 1. That being said I do still defend their quality after a couple bios revisions, which their x99 boards are well beyond by this point. I can't really say the same about MSI's Krait and SLI models, so I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending one to a friend. The Gaming and Mpower models seem to work well though and I use a gigabyte board in my main rig (though the UEFI is a bit more chaotic than msi or asus' take).

yep, Brian from Tech Yes City indeed had a failing burned out board after just 1 week of usage.
The board looked realy awfull aswell.

Pistol also has this board in her rig, as far as i know,
and i think it works fine.
So it might have been just a bad first batch or whatnot..

For me personaly i would still look for an Asus or Asrock X99 board.
Just because of better build quality overall.

@penguinairlines @MisteryAngel I appreciate the feedback, looks like i'm going to be going down a similar path as @Zippy_Parmesian and pickup an X99-A.

X99-A is a pretty solid board as long as you don't need usb 3.1 right away. Happy building!

Very simple, you have to wait until either have proven or dis proven themselves. Asus would definitely be my first choice.
But again they are not made by god, they do break; but then the amount of users sometimes makes the debugging process simpler due to the sheer amount of said product users. just my little sens (IMO)

Cheers
PS ever consider X79, well balanced? just curiosity as to the fact that , have users already forgotten all about the X79, the original 2011. (the one that works without promises).
