Should i buy a soundcard for my new Corsair SP2500 2.1 speakers?

Hey!

I hope someone can help me out as a lost swede in this large lonely world of soundcards!

Im really looking into buying the SP2500s from corsair. The problem is that many people actually said that you need a dedicated soundcard to get the most out off these speakers.

Im currently using my onboard Realtek ALC887 on my motherboard and i have never even thought about getting a dedicated soundcard before. I started to look around for some cheap soundcards and my first find was the ASUS Xonar DX (100$). This card looks like its more off a ''bang for the buck'' card and that got me thinking if its even that big off a difference to the onboard audio?

The next card that caught my intrest was the ASUS Xonar Phoebus Solo (150$). Now its starting to get expensive! I couldnt find any propper reviews on this card so i dont really know much about it. Is it worth the extra money over the Xonar DX?

These are the main things i want to know about:

Is the Xonar DX a good enough solution for the speakers?

How much will the Xonar DX improve over the onboard audio?

Will a more high-end card like the Phoebus Solo be worth the extra cash?

Should i even buy a soundcard at all?

Thanks!

don't buy a soundcard if you have onboard

Get a DAC if anything.

if you have such a budget for a soundcard, is buying the speakers and then evaluating if you need one not an option?

Yes thats i good idea. I think im just going to hear how it sounds and then decide if i want to upgrade. The question is what i should buy if i want to get a soundcard. DX or Phoebus?
