So I have noticed a lot of people go with the Yeti, AT 2020, or the Samson for streaming and they always pick up a lot of the noise from a mechanical keyboard. I was wondering with the sound pattern of a shotgun mic if you put it closer to you than your keyboard would you be able to get rid of most of the mechanical keyboard noise? Have not seen many people if any talk about using a shotgun mic before.
In theory it should work because a shotty mic only pics up audio from what's directly in front of it however, what will make a difference is how and where you have said mic stabilized and away from outside interference such as away from your phone for instance. Even then depending on which one you choose it may still pick up noise from its surroundings.
I too want to do this because I have a camera for film production but lack a mic for better audio, BUT I also want to produce game play and commentary content on youtube and also lack a desktop mic so I figured ill get a shotty mic to do both.
This video can explain much better than I can, but at 3:34 he jumps to off-axis rejection which is basically what you are asking about. I do recommend you watch the whole thing tho since in really informative and provides so info that will come in handy.
