so my question is which tablet should i get, the shield or dell venue. well before i ask that i want to ask can i run android on the dell venue windows 8 tablet and how is the performance compared to the shield tablet. my other question is is the gpu in the shield with its 192 kepler cores better than the intel hd 4200 graphics, and if so by how much and what will be my gaming experience on the dell venue. are there better tablets for the same price, or even less or just above it.
The Shield Tablet will Annihilate the Dell Venue 8 Pro in Every Way shape and Form. Gaming, and Media Consumption. The only thing The Dell Venue Pro has over the Shield Tablet is that Using Valve's In Home Streaming, you can use any GPU you own. whilst with Nvidia Shield (Your Stuck with Nvidia) also you get a free copy of Microsoft Office (which is a plus if you are student) and you can run X86 Applications.
NOT to say that the Dell Venue 8 Pro is a terrible device it's actually pretty nice. [I own one] but Windows in the Tablet Space is a little funky. and Scaling is Terrible on Windows so a Stylus will be Beneficial. and you don't get that you need to buy one. unlike the Shield Tablet where it comes with one.
If your sole purpose with Your tablet is Gaming and Media Consumption (Netflix Hulu) then the Shield Tablet will be your best bet.
well as you said i can run 86 applications which is why i want to get a windows 8 tablet, but can it also run android, like can i dual boot android and windows. also are there any alternatives to both. how does the valve streaming software work, or rather how well does it work and can fermi gpus use it.
It might be worth considering the nexus 9. It has the 64bit Tegra K1 which is comparable to the Apple A8x on single threaded performance but losing on multithreaded by about 33% - but then it's 2 cores vs the A8x's 3 cores.
yeah but its a 100 more than the shield and the shield is kinda better in every way, especially game streaming. the shield also has nvidias propitiary software just for the shield.
You can't really Dual Boot Android and Windows on it. Unless you can put it in a Virtual machine (Which surprisingly the Atom Supports it) but your experience may not be so great.
To answer your question Valve's In-Home Streaming Works With I Believe Most GPU's and it works VERY Well. You'd have to check up on that if you are capable on running it on those 500 Series Nvidia GPUs.
As of Right now Though The Only thing Nvidias Game-stream has over Valve's In-Home-Streaming is that With a GTX 650 or Above You can play games on your Shield Device and Mind you, you can PLAY them ANYWHERE. if you are in your buddies house you can play your PC games from the tablet, (But your Computer must be on and you must be on WI-Fi. anyones Wi-FI counts btw) Valve's in-Home-Streaming doesn't do this. (it Only works from Home :( )
Running X86 Programs is nice on the Dell Venue 8 Pro but the scaling is really bad to the point where you can't really use your fingers very well. Here's what i mean. try using your fingers on this (put your finger on your Monitor (I set the Resolution of this Picture to exactly the size of my Tablet) it's not that great,
How is the shield kinda better in every way? It has a lot of problems. The screen is mediocre, the buttons are somewhat mushy, and (at least at launch) the OS was very unstable and prone to crashing.
The Shield Tablet has an IPS Screen at 1920x1200 and the Dell Venue 8 Pro has an IPS Screen of 1200x800. the Buttons being mushy shouldn't be a Con, and It Runs Android Kit-Kat (Soon to Be Android L) In terms of what is truly better the Shield Tablet Versus the Dell Venue 8 Pro. (The Shield is Better) and it's capable of Running Many Emulators unlike the Dell Venue 8 Pro and on top of that Media consumption is nice with it's higher res-screen.
is there a ps2 emulator on android and can the shield run it?
Theoretically it's possible but not natively.
What you would have to do is add the .EXE File of the PS2 Emulator to Steam. then from your Shield Tablet Run the Steam Launcher and Click the PS2 EXE File from Steam and you are capable of Streaming your PS2 Games from Anywhere to your Nvidia Shield. The only Problem is that I've never see it done before and i don't know how it works on the Shield. I know for a Fact the Dell Venue 8 Pro using Valve's in Home Streaming doesn't work at ALL.
so i would still have to actually run the emulator on my pc and then stream it, well that sucks.
No. You can launch it from the tablet but my point is that in Valve's In-Home Streaming, When I tried putting the .EXE file in Steam and Launching the .EXE file from my Dell Venue 8 Pro. It worked don't get me wrong. but i couldn't launch a game cause It wouldn't let me reach the Tabs on the window to load up a game. I'm curious if this is the same case on the Shield Tablet using Nvidia Game-Stream.
so i would still need to stream it using the valve in home streaming software, right?
you are not understanding me.
It Works. the PS2 Emulator Opens on the Dell Venue 8 Pro using Valve's In-Home-Streaming. but from my Experience on the Dell Venue 8 Pro it wouldn't let me reach the tabs to load up a game from the tablet. thus leaving it unusable.
I have no Experience if the Shield also Does this Using Nvidia's Game-Stream. if it doesn't do the same thing as Valves In-Home-Streaming. then yes it will work. but i have no experience testing the PS2 Emulator Using Nvidia's Game-Stream. I do plan on getting the Shield Portable Sometime soon. so i will probably test that out. but right now I cannot confirm if it works on Nvidia's Game-Stream. i know for a fact it doesn't work streaming PS2 Games to a Dell Venue 8 Pro using Valve's In-Home-Streaming.
