I bricked the tablet a while back.
I need to replace the rom chip, any idea if this is possible and if I can even get the chip from some place?
This is a good example about how difficult it is (minor the fact that you need to adapt the software to make it work).
The answer, just like the one in the article, is "yes, if you know what you're doing".
Brick the tablet in what way exactly? It doesn't boot into Android?
I tried to install a custom rom. This was a while go so I forgot the exact details but the point is it won't turn on at all. I was trying to do this to delete some file so the tablet wouldn't be bricked(I wasn't supposed to destroy it). Was gonna sell it.
Can you get into fastboot at all? Also is jtag still a thing that would be exposed?
No fastboot no safe mode, nothing. Remember seeing some message once when I had it plugged in to some software for custom rums, research said that i need some nvidia developer software that isn't available to the public.
ah, sorry then. it's in all likelyhood attached to the board bga style and would be fairly difficult to de/reattach without proper equipment. You'd also need need a replacement that already had the the system files on it.
edit:though if you could get jtag access fixing it without replacing hardware would be possible
What's it worth like this?
And why the hell cant nvidia fix it? I told them I'd pay for it.
you could try to find one used (with like a destroyed screen) and use its mobo with your tablet. i wouldn't imagine anyone would pay very much for a broken one unless they needed parts. :L
eh, if it's not covered under warranty they'd rather you buy another product.
speaking of bricking android devices google pay now requires a locked bootloader in adition to an unmodified/unrooted system to function. the issue being relocking a bootloader is pretty dangerous lolipop, but now im all off topic.
