what cpu?
if my laptop had a good heatsink I could theoreticly OC it to 4.8ghz.
at-least it was done on the 4600m. see: http://hwbot.org/submission/2911438_0.0_xtu_core_i7_4600m_602_marks
so, sandybridge i5 is doing @5ghz
what skylake i7 is doing@4ghz
?
id still expect more out of that many generations + 4 more threads
honestly, i dont think ill upgrade the cpu unless i can move to x99
8350 @ 3.4Ghz, Mem @ 1333Mhz
Single: 857
Multi: 4364
Wonder if my CPU would perform like _ju1es does if I didn't throttle it and have x265.exe encoding/VMs in the background while bench-marking. Will test again when the render finishes (2 days from now).
_ju1es:
8320 @ 4.7Ghz, Mem @ 2140Mhz
Single: 1373
Multi: 8949
The skylake isn't overclocked.
Yea, but the 4 generation old cpu.
Is still bangin out the same scores as the new one.
Even if yours is stock,
And mine is at its top-end.
That just tells me, that my cpu is still on par with anything that I could buy today.
So there isn't really any need to upgrade.
Not to mention, the clocks,
My stock speed was 3300 if I recall and a boost to 3700
Meanwhile your stock is 4000 with a boost of 4200
Your stock boost clock would already be 500mhz oc above mine
We both should totally do an actual benchmark or two and see how much the real performance improvement is from there 4 gen difference
What is the highest your cpu will upclock?
X47multi that's getting up there
Well here is mine,4690K at 4.4GHz daily, at 1.18V
EDIT:
Set CPU max state to 100%, left it at 95%
Original at 95% if anybody is interested

Well, that is good, at least as far as single core performance goes, we match.
Stock clock 4770k
Going to push it back up as far as I can and run again
UPDATE
1.45V on the core, 4.7GHz and temps maxing at 94C. at 1.5v I was thermal throttling.
30% boost in performance from a 30% overclock
I might see if I can push 4.8GHz
UPDATE 2
4.8GHz is a no go
Nice and toasty.
Have not tried to hit anything past 4.6 will most likely attempt to do so sometime.
Seeing better single core performance on my 4770k than your 8 core. Kinda sad Intel
so 4770k > 4790k in multithreaded? I think you're thermal throttling there dude
