Setting up remote desktop sharing

I’m trying to view the desktop of a Ubuntu 16.04 machine from a Fedora 28 system all in my local network.

In Ubuntu I turned on “Allow other users to view your desktop” in Desktop Sharing Preferences. With Remmina I created a new VNC Incoming connection on a random port (eg. 40096). It then shows a dialog box with “Listening on [PORT] for an incoming VNCI connection…”

In Fedora I used Remmina to connect with the VNC protocol to [localhostIP]:[PORT], but it just says “Connecting…” indefinitely.

What could be the problem?

I upgaded the Ubuntu machine from 16.04 to 18.04 and now desktop sharing works. No clue…

On the other hand 18.04 is sooo much slower on this old machine, so that’s a new hassle to sort out.

Another solution is possibly chrome remote desktop so easy to use
